IT Manager – Web Development

• Led an 11 member web development team in multiple projects to increase the functionality of the

company's ecommerce initiative. All projects were implemented in .Net using both Waterfall and

Agile methodologies. Project schedules were met on-time with high quality deliverables resulting in

nearly a 100% increase in departmental revenue over a 12 month period.

• Provided project continuity by serving as point of contact for marketing, customer service and

development groups. Managed all project phases including: project definition, requirements

gathering, scope definition, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, architectural

design, hardware acquisition, risk management, deliverables tracking, QA and release.

• Created a more collaborative environment which increased team efficiency and significantly

improved interactions between development and senior management. The team included an Architect,

Senior, Mid-level and Contract developers, a Graphics Artist, QA Engineer and a System

Administrator. Productivity increased dramatically in a 3 month timeframe.

• Built the team through hiring and mentoring of existing team members. Brought in 3rd party tools

resulting in significant reduction in development and delivery time

• Managed the team's PCI compliance and SEO efforts. Provided training for the team in SEO

techniques resulting in an immediate and significant increase in the product's Google SEO rating.

• Co-managed the company's offshore outsourcing development project which resulted in the

development of a new web site in a 5 month time frame and a dramatic decrease in the company's

operational costs.

• All development was done using ASP.NET, VB.NET and MySQL.

Investment Management

Technical Project Manager – Contract Position

• Served as an Architectural Project Manager on a cross-functional, company-wide initiative to divide

the company into two separate entities. The project involved the duplication of all development, QA,

production and disaster recovery hardware environments along with the corresponding software

architectures.

• Worked with both internal and external groups on the development of a comprehensive project plan

which covered hardware requirements and procurement, software development schedules, rollout

phases, resource requirements and the impact of related projects.

• Provided Project Management at a high level for two development groups and detailed management

for one of them. Tasks included not only development of project plans but acting as a single point of

contact for the two groups, researching and documenting the software architecture, working with

development teams on interface changes and integration test scheduling, monitoring day to day status

and providing monthly status reviews for senior management.

• Developed and presented an options proposal to senior management and the Technology Operation

committee which resulted in the approval of a hardware implementation approach expected to exceed

$700k.

Symantec, Santa Monica, CA 5/2004 – 6/2005

Development Manager

• With a goal of creating the company’s next major consumer / corporate software release including its’

new spyware product, led a 12 person team in the enhancement of the software infrastructure and

development of the spyware engine portion of the product. All milestones were met on or before the

due dates. Other responsibilities included:

• Working with internal and external teams in defining, estimating development efforts and

prioritizing requirements.

• Performing project management tasks including scheduling and assigning personnel, conducting

design and code reviews, monitoring /rebalancing work loads, holding daily staff meetings,

reviewing and assigning defects, handling integration issues with external teams and

communicating status to senior management.

• Serving as the groups main contact for QA and Product Management teams

• Created and gave an architectural overview presentation to Development groups, QA and the

Product Management organizations to increase the awareness of the product’s infrastructure.

Reuters America Inc., El Segundo, CA 1986 - 2004

A provider of stock market financial information

Software Advisor / Manager (1995-2004)

• To keep the Reuters Plus product current with the latest Microsoft technologies, served technical lead

in the conversion of the product to a web service. Project was completed in a 5 month time frame.

• Designed and implemented in 3 month time frame, a multithreaded, object oriented, .Net middleware

architecture, which included a memory resident data base written in C#. It provided .Net client

applications with an API to retrieve real time stock market data.

• Developed 5 COM components in a 4 month time frame, to provide charting data in a client/server

environment. All components were multithreaded (MTA) and implemented using IConnectionPoint

interfaces. One of the objects was a shared component which provided thread pooling and message

queuing.

• Served as lead engineer in the redesign of the company’s data delivery system to increase system

performance and remove data traffic bottlenecks. Resulting in an increase of system through-put of

30% and a 20% reduction in CPU usage.

• To provide a news service to the Reuters Plus product, served as technical lead and developer in the

creation of three ActiveX applications and a dynamic headline server. Project was completed on time

and the applications integrated seamlessly in the product’s environment.

Senior Programmer Analyst (1989 – 1995)

• Successfully created a reliable client/server news application, to provide broadcast headlines and

story data. Application was developed using Microsoft C in a Windows 3.1 environment, used a DDE

interface to retrieve story information in a query/response fashion and received broadcast headlines

dynamically via a TCP/IP connection.

• Developed a UNIX like message queue system as a Windows 3.1 DLL to provide UNIX applications

ported to the Windows 3.x environment with a similar API for inter-process communication. Project

reduced the porting time by 20%.

Senior Programmer (1986 – 1989)

• Developed a memory resident database, which was updated on a real time basis via TCP/IP LAN

connections or serial lines to provide applications with quick access to dynamic stock market data.

The result was significant reduction in access time and the load on the server.

• To reduce assembly time, designed, coded and debugged on time, a batch job submittal system

between a proprietary Quotron mini computer and a UNIX server.
