THIS IS MARLEE BROWN
I ’m exceptionally lucky to have been born into a world of interactive
t echnology. Being equ ally drawn to calculus, physics a nd circuitry as well as
g litter - glue, c rocheting and impressionism it’s been difficult to d etermine if I’m a
‘ left brain’ or a ‘right brain’ sort of person.
U ltimately, I’m a problem solver. I thrive on the process of thinking something
t hrough and making it happen, constantly pushing boundaries and asking all
t he ‘what if’ questions. I f ind satisfaction a t each step: r esearch, learning,
p lanning, b uilding and, of c ourse, making it all look good, no matter if the
p roblem is highly technical o r highly e xpressive . Calculators and Crayolas get
a n equal share of my affection.
T his is why I’m so lucky. The rap id growth of the w eb a nd interactive mediums
h as intertwined creativity and technology so perfectly and permanently t hat the
p erfect niche was c reated for those of us who can’t choose between the two. I t
h as also caused a s eismic philosophical and s ocieta l s hift a s people expect
f aster, lighter, meaner, greener, m ore c ustomizable products and individualized
i nteractions.
W e li ve in an experiential world now; t raditional methods of media and
m arketing are becoming more and more obsolete, and, with the in creased flow
o f information, customers are more knowledgeable, less loyal, and more
d istracted than ever before. In many ways it is no longer good enough to
p rovide a product or service; businesses h ave to c urate e xperiences for their
c ustomers i n order to s tand out amongst the clutter and e ngage ever - so - fleeting
a ttention s pans . P lus, t he advent of social media means that t hey h ave to g o
e ven further, t urn ing b uyers into believers in order to g ive their product staying
p ower in a temporal marketplace.
I t’ s a w orld that absolutely requires a firm grasp on technology, an abundance
o f creativity, a b ulletproof a esthetic s ense, the ability to change quickly, and
t he desire to keep learning .
I t’s the perfect world for me.
