Experience
1997-Present Various Projects Have done some in-depth research and some
aspects of implementation into various projects. Did preliminaries for company
formation, including distinct areas such as incorporation and legal. Have pursued
several ideas to various stages of completion.
1996-97 Reltec (for Olsten) Software Engineer As a consulting engineer,
updated an electro-mechanical switch tester. Worked in a small team environment.
Completed design, implementation, and testing in the C language using MS Visual C++
running on an IBM PC using the MS Windows Operating System. The resultant source
code was cross-compiled for a host platform featuring a Motorola 68020 motherboard.
1994-95 Texas Instruments (for TAD Technical) Lead S/W Engineer
As a consulting engineer, was team lead, for the cellular pseudo-team, for an
update, to cellular use, for a land-line, voice-activated-dialing
telecommunications system. As team lead, did research, high-level design,
implementation and testing. Borrowed time from other land-line engineers
(including software engineers, linguistic engineers, testers, etc). Had authority
to give assignments to cellular pseudo-team members. Design was implemented in the
C language with light usage of C++.
1993-94 Mobil Oil (for Software Solutions) Technical Support As a consulting
engineer, installed and supported a new time-sheet application affecting several
hundred scientists and engineers, written for the accounting department at Mobil.
As a member of our elite, small team, manned hotline (including adjustment of
Novell Netware accounts), did trouble-shooting and, for a short time, gave key
assistance to a member of the accounting staff about producing reports based on the
information generated by the application program. Work was done on both Apple
Macintosh and IBM PC platforms. The IBM’s ran MS Windows and MSDOS batch files
were used. Networking was done over coaxial lines, using Novell Netware, Apple
Computer AppleTalk, and TCP/IP.
1992 USA Video Software Engineer At this small, fast-paced, video-on-
demand company, wrote original software and was assigned an update. While at this
company, also sat in on meetings with upper-level management of two large companies
and others. Completed a digital jukebox (a forerunner of music store music preview
software), a screen saver, a network detection system, & suggested contacting a
major cable network so video-on-demand could be used for music videos. Was
responsible for outsourcing a project and producing critical documentation for an
international equipment shipment. Was given much autonomy in completing all
aspects of job assignments. Software was completed in the C language, using MSDOS,
on IBM PC’s, running MS Windows, Borland C and Microsoft C++.
1989-91 Bell Northern Research Software Engineer Worked in a team environment
of 12 telecommunications software engineers, amongst several hundred engineers, for
one of the “Big Three“ telephone companies of the period. BNR was a subsidiary of
Northern Telecomm (NorTel Network Systems) which produced one of the first all-
digital long-distance nodes of its caliber. As a member of scientific staff, code
was completed in the Protel language, on HP Unix Workstations, cross-compiled
through an IBM mainframe to the node’s resident processor.
Education
1989 Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering, The University of
Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas. Graduated with high honors, lifetime member
of Tau Beta Pi - The National Engineering Honor Society, implemented hardware and
completed software for a digital audio record/playback system, member of MIGIT
senior engineering project (a Tablet computer design).
