SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

Hands-on leader with a 15-year track record of successfully introducing emerging-technology products on a

global scale, and an extensive background in the following competencies:

MATERIALS SCIENCE NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION POWER ELECTRONIC PACKAGING

THERMO-MECHANICAL MODELING NOVEL MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT MANAGEMENT

RELIABILITY SCIENCE PRODUCT QUALIFICATION POWER COMPONENT DEVELOPMENT

Created, directed, and implemented organization-wide New Product Introduction (NPI) and development

programs for three globally introduced power electronic technologies

Researched and developed semiconductor device processes for interconnect metallization, ohmic contacts,

Schottky contacts, semiconductor structures, and dielectric elements with regard to electrical and

reliability performance under high environmental, thermal and thermo-mechanical stress.

Taught courses in semiconductor device physics, thin films processing and characterization, high

voltage/high temperature materials and devices, thermal and mechanical behavior of materials, and power

electronic packaging for discrete and module applications.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

CREE, INC. - Durham, NC 2001-2009

Manager, New Product Development

Created NPI program to develop profitable products from newly developed technologies. Implemented Change

Management strategies to transform organizational thinking from a research focus to a profitable business.

Promoted new products and technologies to develop commercial, government, and international customers

including: large US defense contractors, Asian and European power supply manufacturers, large and mid-

size European telecommunication companies, and mid-sized European and North American alternative

energy companies.

Used project management skills to assure on-time milestones, minimize development costs, and execute

successful product launches on 5 simultaneous new product initiatives.

Manager, Advanced Device Reliability and Failure Analysis Department

Performed recruiting, goal setting, coaching, and evaluation of department management and engineering staff.

Managed department capital planning and operating budget.

Directed failure analysis activities for customer RMAs and physical analysis activities for internal process

development.

Member of Process Control Review Board for approving product development activities and corrective

actions.

Provided expertise and guidance to potential and current customers regarding product qualification and

integration into customer applications at the component and systems level. Repaired relationships with

customers experiencing product integration issues and field failures.

Developed physics-of-failure models for inherent reliability and quality-driven reliability failure

mechanisms; used this insight to promote the superior quality and reliability behavior of these new

technologies as a sales and marketing advantage

Used technical knowledge to improve device and process design with regard to reliability and quality

performance. Awarded US Patent #7525122B2, “Passivation of Wide Bandgap Based Semiconductor

Devices with Hydrogen Free Sputtered Nitrides”
