EXPERIENCE
AT&T, Middletown, New Jersey
Sybase DBA Implementation Analyst 2005 – 2008
• Built excellent client relationships by continually working with system engineers, developers, and application users to
identify issues and suggest corrective action when necessary as well as ensuring all projects were on time.
• Performed database administration for 9 Sybase ASE (with databases up to 135 GB) and replication servers on all
platforms (test and production) as well as moving Sybase servers (ASE and replication) from one UNIX host to a
different UNIX host when required. Upgrade servers as needed (both EBF and Versions) as well as client installs.
• Completely revamped the cron Alert and Monitoring system to give quick timely e-mails of problems and give a short
overview of normal maintenance jobs with details in attachments. Allowed continuous monitoring so that
recommendations for tuning changes to improve performance issues could be recommended.
• Established a standard naming convention to be followed for all database changes (both DDL and data changes to static
tables) to be used in source code control system. Established a genetic template to follow for making the database
changes during the monthly deployments.
• Tested documented deployment plans for database changes and updates to verify the completeness and accuracy of both
the plan and the installed packages before doing the production install.
AT&T, Florham Park, New Jersey
Integration Test Manager to AT&T Solutions 2000 – 2003
• Maintained the entire Unix Integration testing environment (HP/UX and Solaris servers, both Operating
Systems/Volume Management and installed packages / patches. Removed and re-installed packages to ensure the latest
versions of approved software (both locally developed and vendor supplied). Used various methods such as tar, EMC
BCV and dd, to return servers to original state when necessary.
• Performed administration for databases (Sybase and Oracle) on Integration Servers, including restoring and activating
“Hot” backup copies of production databases (prior to major releases), resetting passwords, and verifying connectivity of
database systems (Ticketing / Disaster Recovery / Reporting) to ensure proper synchronization and movement of data.
Monitored and tuned database servers for any performance issues.
• Tested documented deployment plans for database changes and updates as well as Remedy Ticketing system, web
applications, HP Open View and HP Smarts used to monitor hardware and connectivity problems prepared by
developers to verify the completeness and accuracy of both the plan and the installed packages (including tailoring perl
and java scripts). Worked with developers to resolve any problems or issues found during the deployment and testing
and helped resolve SABLIME and SWINSTALL issues

HOWARD CORNEILSON
• Monitored critical applications for the project, file system growth, and developers' use of privileged (root) account using
cron with distributed korn scripts and e-mail. Managed NIS user/group accounts, monitored and managed File Systems/
Partitions using Logical Volume Manager
• Served as backup DBA for SQL database server.
CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
System and Database Administrator 2000-2000
• Led the client in developing and implementing a plan to install Sybase 11.9.2 with Replication Server on new Solaris
servers, then moved their production databases (from Sybase 11.0.3.3).
• Corrected stored procedures (due to changes in Sybase Optimizer) and verified that the Sybase client applications and
interfaces to other systems worked accurately.
• Worked with the client to install and configure Solaris 7 on Sun E450 servers, including defining the UNIX file systems
using Suns Veritas Volume Manager.
• Reviewed and improved UNIX shell (korn shell) scripts for the new version of Solaris and Sybase and also verified that
the Sybase client applications and all other interfaces to other systems worked appropriately.
AT&T, Florham Park, New Jersey
Sybase Database Administrator/Developer and UNIX System Administrator 1997 – 2000
• As Sybase DBA, developed and documented procedures to upgrade Sybase servers; designed physical database for a
combined-client reporting database, including triggers and stored procedures to maintain this high-volume reporting
database; developed and maintained triggers and stored procedures to maintain constraints and foreign keys
• Served as backup DBA for SQL database server,
• Architected, developed and maintained physical data base structure from logical design of client database, customizing
each to perform within the unique constraints of the applications that would access the data as well as develop
methodologies for modifying existing databases during new releases and upgrades, ensuring integrity of existing data
and access permissions; maintained source code in SABLIME for all SQL code and scripts; developed procedure to
install and maintain replication Server for production site; monitored and analyzed status of (15) SQL servers, including
recovery after disk failures, backup, and load of databases.
• As Unix SA, installed Operating Systems, client software and patches, configured disk partitions, added users and
monitored systems and Omniback enterprise backup system for potential problems; developed detailed procedures (with
step by step instructions) to utilize EMC's symmetric disks and BCV utility to synchronize HP/UX volume groups on
multiple servers (maintained source code in SABLIME for all scripts); initiated new servers using ignite to duplicate
existing server roles; kept Production Disaster Recovery system updated and ready for use; and worked with SABLIME
Administrator to ensure proper access for developers and testers to SABLIME and SWINSTALL.
• Developed scripts to automate monitoring status of SQL servers and HP/UX systems, utilities to report on various
aspects of the Database servers and application tables and method to maintain source code in a single location and to
propagate the source code to the HP/UX hosts
• Installed, upgraded, and maintained SYBASE SQL server, BACKUP server, Open Server, DBLIB and Open Client
software on HP/UX systems
DUN AND BRADSTREET, Parsippany, New Jersey
Sybase Database Administrator 1995 – 1997
• Architected, created and installed physical database design on very large databases (38 to 61 GIG of database per
server); performed and maintained all changes to the physical structure of the database and all tables, indexes, and views
within the databases; and installed, upgraded, and maintained SYBASE SQL server, BACKUP server, Open Server,
DBLIB and Open Client software on HP/UX systems
• Developed methodology to maintain source code in a single location and to propagate the source code to the HP/UX
hosts for scripts to automate monitoring status of SQL servers and HP/UX systems and utilities to report on various
aspects of the SQL server and application tables.
• Developed scripts to monitor and analyze the status of (15) SQL servers, including recovery after disk failures, backup,
and load of databases
