Selected Accomplishments
Project, Engineering, Technical, Business Review/ Evaluation/Recommendation
Provided analysis and recommendations to lender, Board of Directors,
and Company management for a grain-to-ethanol facility in Australia
during a 1-month engagement on-site in Australia. Analysis,
recommendations, and suggested plans covered improved plant efficiency
for ethanol yields, reduced utility consumption, strengthening
operations staff capability, and effectiveness, and alternatives for
co-product off-take for plant debottlenecking.
In conjunction with client, independent bank engineer, and lender,
conduct a risk assessment of offered biofuel plant technology and
design to demonstrate suitability of plant design to handle non-
specified operating conditions while maintain required production
capacity and efficiency.
At the request of Australian client, explored, evaluated, and
recommend variations in plant equipment and process configuration for
using wheat as a feedstock to produce ethanol and other value-added co-
products to meet necessary business model requirements as well as
address and satisfy lenders risk concerns for his proposed plant.
o Provided evaluation and recommendation to client of select design
engineering and EPC firms for his project. Input included assessment
of engineering and project methods and controls, risk assessment and
mitigation methods, and engineering/drafting/design tools, and staff
capability & expertise.
Operations and Business Management
o Director Projects, International Operations with Delta-T responsible
for project and development activities for ethanol plants
opportunities in Canada, Australia, Mexico, Europe, and Central
America valued over $150 million. Responsibilities include project
sponsorship, client relations, plant conceptualization and
configuration, business plan development, contract development and
negotiations including commercial terms, project performance, client
representative in evaluation, selection, and management of EPC
contractors, contract development including terms, schedule, and
performance guarantees, project budget preparation, and cash flow
projections.
o Developed and managed five person design/application, two person PM
group, and two person business development group for all company
international project activity
o Leveraged in house core team with outside design and technical
services
o Responsible for project profitability
o Program Manager for Delta-T with Indian licensee for fuel grade
molecular sieve dehydration technology and application for multiple
(in excess of twenty-five units) design/license ethanol dehydration
and distillation units for South Africa, India, Europe, Central and
South America, and Australia.
o Program Manager and responsible executive for Delta-T's first neutral
grain spirits turnkey project with Canadian client valued at $15
million.
o Successfully managed DOE Clean Coal Demonstration and EPA
demonstration programs with Babcock & Wilcox for reducing power plant
flue gas emissions. Combined value for the two projects was
approximately $21 million. Created and directed program technical
contact with respect to technology commercialization requirements,
risk assessments associated with products and projects.
o Organized and managed research, development, and project execution
team for 5 MWe SNRB and 5 MWe E-SOx technology development and turnkey
demonstration project..Total team of ten to fifteen people for each
project spanning research and development, engineering, project
management, and start-up and operation.
o Selected and implemented combined schedule, cost, and earned value
software for project tracking
Business and Product Development
o Vice President of International Business Development and Project
Sponsorship with Delta-T responsible for the developing and
implementing biofuels product line and technology outside of North
America including Europe, Eurasia, South America, Mexico, Australia,
Australasia, SE Asia, Caribbean basin, South Africa, Specific
responsibilities and accomplishment include:.
o Management of business and technical relationship with European
division
o Development, implementation, and management of cooperation agreement
with Arkel Sugar for sugar cane/sweet sorghum bio-ethanol worldwide
o Managed assessment and integration of licensor technology into
integrated cane/sweet sorghum processing plant
o Development of cooperation agreement and its implementation for
cooperation with Alfa Laval India
o Development of cooperation agreement and its implementation for bio-
ethanol plants in Australia
. Directly developed and negotiated two EPT (engineer, critical
equipment supply, technology license ) contracts for two Australian
clients for multiple projects...internal team of eight people used to
accomplish this covering legal, technical, procurement
. Responsible executive for feasibility work with four separate
Australian clients
o With Delta-T, developed and prepared feasibility studies, business
plans, and combines technical/cost assessments in support of client
decisions to embark on investment in ethanol and co-product producing
facilities.
o Preparation of business plans for two domestic fifty million gallon
per year fuel ethanol facilities including incorporation of business
sector supply/demand considerations for feed and off-takes; financial
models and "what-if" scenarios: plant configurations and capital and
operating requirements with related costs; air & water permitting;
and support for debt and equity providers and governmental activities
o Project/Program manager for business & technical assessment for thirty
million gallon per year bioethanol feasibility in Mexico including
leading four-person team with client, local Mexican authorities, and
management of business plan preparation.
o Prepared and worked with client in development and implementation of
business plans and Support client legislative and financing efforts by
participation in meetings with communities, governmental organizations
(up to Prime minister office), and environmental/permitting groups
o Lead manager for technical and cost assessment of NREL non-enzymatic
cellulosic-to-ethanol plant.
o With ABB Flakt and Noell, established and managed pre-contract and
product development activities including process definition, physical
design, risk assessment, target clients, proposal preparation, risk
assessment, and guarantee formulation, and cost estimating for various
wet and spray dryer flue gas desulfurization, NOx, incineration,
energy conservation, foundry sand reclamation, and gasification
projects.
o With Noell, "Americanized" selected Flue Gas Desulfurization designs
and structure of presentations and to acceptance by prospective
clients.
o With Babcock and Wilcox, developed concept, planning, scope
definition, scheduling, budgeting of equipment and personnel, project
execution, sub-contract management, commercial technical and cost
assessments, performed technical work, reporting, and interface with
operating groups for industrial product lines.
o Responsible manager for the technical development and implementation
of wet, spray dryer, and semi-dry flue gas desulfurization systems for
industrial and utility applications including product development &
testing, client presentations, technical marketing support, proposal
preparation, project execution, pilot plant design and testing, and
technical risk assessment while with Flakt ABB..
o Lead engineer for comprehensive studies at Babcock and Wilcox for
advanced technologies including Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle
(IGCC), coal gasification to chemicals and/or power, fluid bed
combustion, energy storage systems, and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD).
Engineering Management
o With Delta-T, Managed design-engineering group for turnkey ethanol
plant and dehydration systems for US and foreign supplied systems
valued at over $200 million. Completed projects performed on time and
budget.
o Managed Noell's US based design engineering group for product lines of
wet FGD, SCR, SNCR, municipal waste and hazardous waste incineration,
gasification, small power plants, hydro and dam projects, foundry sand
reclamation and other corporate products. Responsibilities included
contract and pre-contract functions including design & cost
estimating.
o Forty person engineering department, six direct reports..Overall
responsibility for personnel, project budgets, schedules, and
personnel development and staffing. Department was responsible for
engineering execution and pre-contract proposal support.
o Successfully organized, developed, and managed all engineering design
for ABB Flakt $85 million dry FGD project in Oklahoma
o Development and management of eight person in-house team plus $2.5
million engineering subcontract Included development of design and
management procedures, risk assessment, progress tracking systems,
engineering design documentation control system including subcontract
and vendor document tracking for Oklahoma FGD Project
o Successfully organized, developed, and managed all engineering design
for ABB Flakt $30 million gypsum wallboard manufacturing facility in
Port Newark, NJ.
o Direct management of four person team plus $1.5 million design

o Direct interface with construction company for quantity optimization
o Assembled four person in-house team plus process group from Sweden,
prepared sub-contract engineering contract package specifications and
scope of work, managed all process and detailed design, and

railway, lighting, and balance-of-plant design for the project.
