EXPERIENCE
2009 OSD Tech LLC - Wyoming, MI
Current Product Development Engineer - Medical Product
. Product refinement from idea phase
. Designing product in Pro-E
. Managing prototype component outsourcing and build
. Managing timeline, costs, and BOM
. Patent research and writing, provisional to be sent
in February
2001 - Disher Design & Development - Zeeland, MI
2009 Project Engineer - On-site at Johnson Controls Interiors -
Holland, MI
. Developed a patentable quiet button to decrease the
button sound for overhead consoles
. GMX365 Overhead and Trim Systems - Solved issues for
slide-on rod visor, improved design of screw cover and
assist handle to resolve post tooling release issues
. New Product Strategy Group - Led team in analyzing an
overhead systems concept that was presented at the 2005
NAIAS in Detroit, MI, proposed cost savings worth $20
million based on the Ford P-356 program
. Ford P221 Overhead System - Performed feasibility, root
mean square stackups and part to part analysis along
with leading the change control system on over 40
interlocking parts for the Ford 2004 F-150 truck
overhead system
Lighting Engineer - on-site at Johnson Controls
. Performed light testing on instrument panel clusters,
overhead consoles and rail lamps to meet customer
specifications of both incandescent and LED lighting
systems
. Specified current for LED intensity and color binning to
meet overhead console backlit button specifications
. Developed a backlit button procedure which can reduce
the development process by 8 months saving $3,900 in
direct cost of multiple retests
. Co-inventor of a specific type of extruded light pipes.
JCI has filed a provisional patent
. Lead the lighting development in the JCI show properties
for the 2008 North American Auto Show
Product Development Engineer - Various Customers
. Designed and performed feasibility study for kayak
carriers in Solidworks and Pro-E
. Assisted team members in machine design using Solidworks
. Lead and facilitated more than 15 brainstorming sessions
with customers from many various industries with one
being an all day event
. Performed stackup analysis to root cause failures in
mirror and overhead consoles and recommended tooling
changes if required. Decreased the stackup on a project
by changing the datum scheme, saving a tool change.
. Responsible for generating, documenting and determining
business case for new product designs and product
improvements, various customers.
. Fold Away Boat Seating - Ran project to design /
prototype 2 folding seats and 1 seat surround for the
boating industry. Used Pro-E to create the CAD models
and Pro-E Mechanism to test functionality and packaging
performance to specifications. Specified all components
for the build. Lead the contact between the customer
and designer on "A" surface for seating surround
. Water Massage Bed - Directed CAD and electrical
engineering activities. Created controlled DATA system
for the complete massage bed. Used VA/VE tools to
decrease the cost of the bed. Improved the
functionality of the bed both in pressure control and
speed performance. Developed validation test procedure.
Developed a quality assurance test procedure that is
performed on 100% of the beds. Used Pro-E software to
revise and prototype parts during the development.
Developed a new hand control to decrease the cost by $9
per part
1990 - 2001 Donnelly Corporation - Holland, MI
Product Development Engineer
. Designed patented products for the vehicle interiors,
including detachment systems and information display
areas
. Saved General Motors $180,000 in tooling and enabled
launch of the OnStar Program by developing and launching
5 wire covers in 6 months, fitting 12 different vehicles
. Used robust design principles to improve prismatic
interior rearview mirror design, saving the company
$150,000 per year in sorting costs
