career I have been exposed to 'cutting edge' technologies in electronics
design, support, methodologies, problem solving, root cause analysis and
problem resolution at various levels.
Human Relations - Customer Service: The ability to work with various
technical and professional staff as well as customers from many fields
ranks high on my inventory list. I am a 'people person' and I thoroughly
enjoy assisting people in solving problems, training, and generally helping
others to succeed.
Technical Writing: I enjoy those areas of employment that require
communicating technical information accurately and in an easily understood
manner - to both technical and non-technical users.
Simultaneous Attention: Grounded by a breadth of knowledge and experience,
I excel in a busy customer based environment handling several
tasks/projects simultaneously.
3 Professional Career History
BBA REMANUFACTURING
2009 - Present
Taunton, MA / Kent, UK
BBA Remanufacturing re-manufactures automotive electronics.
Research and Development Engineer
This is currently a contract position to determine the feasibility of
expanding the Taunton, Massachusetts location to include the research and
development engineering role which currently only exists at the corporate
headquarters in the United Kingdom.
Accomplishments:
. Designed a microcontroller based solution to produce an encoded
digital signal output to bypass a defective controller for ABS braking
systems.
. Reverse engineered and repaired several other ABS braking system
issues, Turbo charger actuators, transmission control modules.
. Produced troubleshooting and test procedures for these issues.
. Produced a manufacturing work-around for calibrating power steering
torque sensors.
FRANKLIN FUELING SYSTEMS
2008 - 2009
Saco, Maine
Franklin Fueling Systems designs, develops and manufactures equipment for
retail fueling stations.
Manufacturing Engineering Consultant
This was a contract position where I was employed to resurrect outdated and
unsupportable manufacturing test processes and test equipment. This
involved reverse engineering the current system and redesigning,
documenting a new system to meet the current needs of the company. This
also involved designing a new process and training the manufacturing and
technical staff on their implementation.
Accomplishments:
. Designed and implemented a TCP/IP network subnet for manufacturing
label printers.
. Designed to be expandable to support additional printers as needs
arise and be accessible to all manufacturing technicians.
. Reverse engineered a LabView production test application that had
become obsolete and became unsupportable due to lack of documentation
and obsolete hardware and operating system.
. Implemented a new process, hardware interface and software application
in Perl with complete documentation on the entire process.
. Trained manufacturing staff on the new system.
Self-Employed and Job Searching due to company down-sizing
2005 - 2008
Ottawa/Brockville, Ontario
While searching for new employment, writing resumes, attending interviews
after being job eliminated from my previous employment I took on a variety
of jobs to make ends meet and prolong my severance. Some of my notable
client projects include:
. PC/Network support: Using remote access technology, I was able to
preform basic and advanced troubleshooting, and PC repair for clients
all over North America. I also used this technology to train people
in specific application software such as Microsoft applications,
graphic packages such as Photoshop, programming languages, and website
design.
. Designed and built websites and web application scripts in Perl, HTML,
PHP and Java.
. Designed and built a mechanical device to create to scale model rope
for model ship building for a client.
. Repaired, designed and rebuilt products both electronic and
mechanical.
. Construction/Remodeling: Took on several projects renovating
commercial businesses and homes. Work in this field included wall and
door framing, drywalling, flooring and painting.
. Custom furniture: Designed and built several wall units to client
specifications.
. Yard/Lawn maintenance and Snow Removal.
. Appliance repair (washer/Dryers,vacuums, etc; home electrical system
troubleshooting and repair and more.
ALCATEL CANADA INC.
1999 - 2004
Ottawa, Ontario
Alcatel provides communications solutions to telecommunication carriers,
Internet service providers and enterprises for delivery of voice, data and
video applications to their customers or employees.
Engineering Support Specialist
I was responsible for troubleshooting and solving design problems;
specifically with the hardware and software design and verification
processes. I was also responsible for designing and modifying design
processes and training the engineers and manufacturing personnel. I also
assisted engineers in designing and troubleshooting several projects.
Accomplishments:
. Designed and developed several scripts and programs to automate
perpetual ASIC, FPGA, CPLD and Simulation and design problems and
issues.
. Worked on an custom integrated circuit embedded implementation of the
Motorola 6809 Processor which was marked end of life. This work
included the hardware interface for the 6809 bus protocol to
the embedded on chip soft core processor. Also, I decoded the
original Motorola opcode to be optimized into the chip.
. Reverse engineered several 3rd party software applications to
temporarily resolve a bug fix and passed the information on to the
vendor so they could permanently resolve the problem.
. Developed and presented an introductory training course for new design
engineers on the hardware design process.
. Awarded an internal company award for reverse engineering an old
schematic design into an FPGA.
. Patent Application submitted and pending; titled: Methods And systems
for Electronic Device Simulation (US Patent Application
1 EASTERN INDEPENDENT TELECOM LTD
1997 - 1999
Brockville, Ontario
EIT provides network solutions, engineering, installation and support
services to the telecommunications industry.
Lead Hardware Designer
. Designed and prototyped a protocol conversion Interface card for the
PC platform. The final PCB was produced by a 3rd party from my hand
drawn schematic. I preformed the extensive lab debugging required to
troubleshoot and repair translation errors and fine tune the design
into the production release.
. Redesigned the protocol conversion Interface card into several
FPGA/CPLD (Programmable Logic) technologies, which achieved a
significant reduction in costs, calibration, and debugging of the
production team.
. Developed a test bed/platform for the Interface Card utilizing
programmable logic technology. This test bed test the complete
operation of the card without interfacing to a switch or the product
it will be interfaced to.
Related Summer Employment
Throughout my college years I held two important roles that enabled me to
graduate completely debt free.
Black & Decker Canada Inc.
. Developed a computer controlled battery testing system and modified
existing hardware and designed new hardware to integrate with my
software . The program, written in C, will 'life-test' up to eight
Sealed Lead Acid(SLA) or Gel type batteries at any one time. The
program runs in real-time on a DOS platform.
. Developed a program to graph and analyze all cycle and history data
generated by the life test program.
G.R.A.P.E Beverages Inc.
. Developed a software program written in C to computerize the company.
The program included a customer database, inventory control/database
and a point of sale terminal.
