Selected Accomplishments
Reorganized underperforming business units for $100M gain. Tekni-Plex was
disorganized with no foundation for growth. As President/COO, executed a
reorganization plan, forming two divisions out of 20 SBU's. Implemented new
financial reporting and IT backbones. Achieved $30M efficiencies and $70M
growth in three years.
Transformed weakest division to produce $60M opportunity. Tekni-
Plex/Colorite unit was struggling. Developed turnaround plan with new
metrics to drive sales, profits and new product development. Reshaped
operations through $30M in cost improvements, closures and offshoring.
Added $30M in sales and margin growth.
Developed new operating strategy at BASF Styrenics. Division had declining
profits. As Group President, developed reorganization plans for
manufacturing, distribution, sales, marketing and R&D. Championed $300M
capital investment in Mexico. Grew business 17% year-over-year to generate
$95M profit improvement.
Spearheaded $70M international growth initiative. Sales and profits at
$450M BASF Chemicals Division were flat. Took lead role in implementing a
$20M operational cost improvement program, a $35M marketing drive into
Latin American and a repositioning of US and Canadian products for a $15M
margin improvement.
Led M&A team to identify 16 BASF acquisitions. Company targeted growth in
Specialty Chemical and Life Sciences. As M&A Team Leader, managed a $2.5B
CapEx budget that identified 16 acquisition targets and 12 potential
divestitures. Assisted in negotiation of Ciba, PPG, Morton and Boots
Pharmaceuticals.
Realigned sales and marketing to book record sales. $275M BASF Specialty
Products was underperforming and needed realignment along market segments
for growth. As Global Sales and Marketing Director, established segmented
sales, marketing and manufacturing strategies to increase sales 15%.
Introduced 12 new products yielding another $50M growth and $25M profits.
Career History
COO/President, Tekni-Plex Consumer Products & Specialty Polymers, 2005-
2009. $650M CPG & plastics manufacturer consisting of four SBU's with 1,600
employees. Consumer and specialty plastics market leader with 1500 SKU's,
11 plants and 775 Sales Associates. Grew revenues 15% year-over-year and
increased profits 100%.
Group President, BASF Styrenics, 1998-2005. $1.1B plastic and plastics
additives manufacturer, division of $50B BASF Corporation. Responsible for
P&L and all business activities of four SBU's. Led $60M cost improvement
program and introduced 25 new products. Improved sales 17% annually and
increased pre-tax profits 125%.
Business Vice President-Specialty Chemicals, BASF Corp. 1996-1998. Full P&L
responsibility for $450M chemical, plastics & building products
manufacturer. Launched new products, increasing profits $35M.
Earlier: Served as M&A Leader for BASF during major expansion drive. Also,
Global Sales & Marketing Director for Specialty Chemicals and Fluids, Brand
Manager-Automotive Products along with several early BASF sales, marketing
and finance assignments.
