Work Experience:
1. 2007 to date: Houston, Texas
Manager for a Retail Business Supermarket chain in the
US. Excellent customer attention 98% overall for 2012, and
able to train and coach workers. My job requires that I
lift over 50 lbs of Produce containers throughout the day.
Able to work with budgets, forecast sales averaging 8%
improvement, minimize losses or shrink under 4%, follow
marketing procedures and in contact with suppliers and
warehouses to provide fresh produce and processed goods for
customers. Also perform other duties like scheduling for
the crew under my direction. Trained as Quality Control
expert for Safeway high quality standards receiving fresh
produce and flowers at the warehouse sometimes 10
containers at the same time, good planning and flow
management of crew, storing and FIFO planning.
Also have a Food Manager Safe handling operations certification
issued by the city of Houston. Have been training as a Produce
Quality Inspector for Fresh Produce. In constant contact with
customers, supervisors, giving forecast, results and meetings as
well as conference calls. Daily price adjustment and compliance
with policies and projections. Managing $ 125,000.00 sales a
month.
2. 2004 to 2007: Central America
Manager for USAID projects in Guatemala with
Foundation AGIL in charge of developing new business
opportunities for cooperatives and associated groups for
high end value export crops, careful design of planting
schedules and crop protection for the market requirements
either USDA or GlobalGap, from the ground up adding the
trace back technology and since I have EurepGap
Certification training, USDA and FDA certification for
Export Food Handling Plants, I was able to help them get
their export business up and running and able to pass
inspections not only from the Government agencies, but from
the buyers or brokers themselves.
El Salvador for Chemonics International under the Millenium
Initiative help them develop postharvest requirements for fresh
produce in line with El Salvador Agicultural Ministry
requirements but also manage successfully to open an account
with the chain of supermarkets called Super Selectos.
Honduras. For ACDI-VOCA from Canada under USAID project
execution for a 3 day Workshop titled: Opportunities for the
Honduras fresh produce industry to access with success the US
retail markets held in San Pedro Sula. Design to give Honduras
producers and growers a better perspective of the different
Quality Assurance or HACCP control points to be taken into
consideration from the farm to the fork.

3. 2000-2004: Cochabamba, Bolivia
Country Manager for the Altiplano initiative under Chemonics
International (USAID-Bolivia) project MAPA II. First as an
Horticultural Specialist, introducing into the country and
establishing planting trial plots with growers under contract in
different regions to try new varieties of flowers, fruits,
vegetables, spices all over the country. Developing the cluster
for export to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the US and Europe.
Also develop training material and website for the growers to
follow up.
Our team successfully exported Raspberries, Blackberries, onions
and spices into these markets. At the local level many
different crops where offered in the markets and up to date
there has been an improvement in the business of the growers
involved.
We worked with nutrient rich super crops like quinua, Canahua
and others to make power bars for the local and European
markets. Was able to implement and manage $1.5 million US in
Grants.
4. 1995 Central America
AGRITRADE 1995 Trade Fair Manager. With the Guatemalan Guild
of Exporters and a budget of 1 million dollars, we advertised
the Guatemalan fresh industry all over Central America selling
Fair space to countries to advertise, attended PMA and UFFVA
to promote the Fair. We manage to promote $ 24 million dollars
in business and partnerships developed in the region with US
and European companies.
5. 1991-1994: Guatemala - Central America
Develop my own family company that operated until 2007, just
before immigrating to the US. We sold to many different
companies, big sugar cane mills corporations and local
businesses product ranging from uniforms, disinfectants,
everyday supplies like coffee, sugar and others. Sales at $
70,000.00 per year
Also worked for a USAID Project called Exitos (PROEXAG) under
USAID funding all over Central America. Developing detailed
horticultural support for many different crops including
Tropical Exotic fruit trees, flowers, vegetables like rambutan,
mangosteen, longan, ginger edible and flowers, etc, temperate
fruits like asparagus, blackberries, raspberries, onions and
others. We developed and provided all relative information,
written and visual material for growers and institutions all
over Central America, Panama and Belize, we even brought experts
in each field and I was simultaneous translator to many
conferences.
6. 1987-1990: Guatemala Chiquita
International. Planting melons under contract, leasing and
co investment, with growers in the Guatemalan south coast
and Zacapa. Exporting 300 containers per season, 1,000
acres 2 times a year, from planting, growing, harvest, post
harvest, loading containers. In contact with receiver to
give information on Quality and distribution, also buying
fields and assessing quality. We diversify to many
different crops even coffee and berries.
Exported frozen vegetables to Superior Foods with growers in
Guatemala, 3,000 hectares 2 times a year, including broccoli,
melons, cauliflower and others, 900 containers per year.
Manager for coffee farms in Guatemala, helped diversified crops
and exported Tillandsias, Pony Tail plants, Bougainvilleas, also
sugar snap and sno peas, French beans, minivegetables and sold
to local and central American markets crops like, tomato,
cucumbers, sweet corn.
7. 1985-1986 Lima, Peru
