Final Year Project

Title: Microcontroller based Cardiac and Respiratory Parameters

determination using ECG

The purpose of the project is to develop a machine that will display ECG,

various cardiac parameters and respiratory parameter. The project is

divided into three stages:

a) The first aim is to obtain ECG waveform on DSO/CRO.

b) Calculate the time interval between two pulses using microcontroller.

c) Lastly calculating and displaying the parameters on computer.

ECG signal is obtained using clamp electrodes. Then signal conditioning and

filtering of the ECG waveform is done in order to obtain a distinguish R

wave from the ECG. These signals are fed to a comparator which generates

pulses using which heart rate is calculated.

Further using heart rate and various mathematical formulas, the following

parameters i.e. cardiac output, stroke volume, pulse pressure and SpO2 is

calculated. Lastly these parameters are displayed using visual basic

software on computer.
