In PhD study, completed multifaceted projects in text mining, natural
language processing, information retrieval, machine learning, statistics
for research, advanced protocols and TCP/IP network security.
. Text Mining in Bioinformatics
. 2005 - present: PathBinder, an open source biological text mining
system over millions of documents
(http://metnet.vrac.iastate.edu/MetNet_PathBinder.htm)
o Explored text empirics in millions biological publications
(MEDLINE) by statistical analysis
o Designed a statistics (Bayesian) and information retrieval
theory-based (tf-idf) algorithm to extract, evaluate
biomolecular interactions and construct an interaction
network from millions of biomedical texts
o Designed and constructed the whole system including java
applications for text (millions of citations, XML)
collection, natural language in scientific papers processing,
entity extraction, phrase segmentation, syntactic analysis,
database (mysql, hundred GB size) design, creation and
update, and an java application serving interaction query
interface
. 2006 - present: PubmedAssistant, a more friendly searching tool for
PubMed system (http://metnet.vrac.iastate.edu/browser/)
. Information visualization for system biology
. 2006 - present: BirdsEyeView, an open source data
visualization java software graphically mapping biological
entities on cell map, pathway tree, Gene Ontology hierarchy
structure based on information stored in Mysql database
(http://metnetdb.org/MetNet_BirdsEyeView.htm)
