Aeroflex - KDI Corporation Whippany, NJ
Vice President of Engineering (October 2004 to Present)
Product Engineering Manager (February 2002 to October 2004)
. Manage diverse group of up to 8 direct and 4 indirect reports. Functions
managed include microwave engineering, process engineering, mechanical
engineering, designing/drafting, equipment maintenance, and machining.
. Interface with customers to resolve problems and exchange technical
information.
. Travel domestically and internationally to provide engineering support to
customers and technical support for sales.
. Review customer specifications and requirements with respect to
feasibility and technical capabilities.
. Improve product reliability and performance by directing research and
qualification of new materials and processes.
. Interface with production and quality personnel to resolve engineering
issues.
. Oversee the development of product bills of material, manufacturing
routers, and drawings.
. Release sales orders to production after review of manufacturing
documents.
. Perform failure analysis on returned product. Write / approve failure
analysis reports.
. Present reports to management on engineering issues.
. Review and document personnel performance. Handle personnel conflicts /
issues.
. Oversee the qualification of new equipment.
. Implement procedures for product development.
. Improved product reliability by instituting power handling verification
on all products.
. Developed Excel macros to analyze and process resistor trimming data.
. Lead Lean Manufacturing initiative by arranging training in lean
concepts, value stream mapping, 5S, and quick change over.
Aeroflex - KDI Corporation Whippany, NJ Senior Design
Engineer (March 2001 to February 2002)
. Designed microwave chip terminations and attenuators to customer
specifications for return loss, insertion loss, and power.
. Modeled termination and attenuator circuits using circuit simulators
(ADS) and 2-D field solvers (Sonnet)
. Solved production problems related to power handling capabilities and RF
performance.
. Verified product performance using network analyzers and microstrip and
stripline test fixtures.
. Implemented computer control of network analyzers
Litton Electron Devices Division Williamsport, PA Microwave Tube
Engineer (January 1999 to March 2001)
. Designed modification to focus electrode for traveling wave tube (TWT)
gun to reduce arcing. Simulated gun with Poisson.
. Solved production/design problem for an X-band reflex klystron that
allowed us to meet the customer specified modulation coefficient. This
saved a $400,000 contract.
. Served as team leader for the first continuous improvement work team that
focused on throughput problems on the TWT production line.
. Qualified a new vendor for providing BeO ceramic by performing pull tests
on the metallized ceramic and phase velocity measurements on a completed
TWT circuit built with the new ceramic.
. Reviewed inspection reports of incoming parts and materials to determine
whether parts rejected to print could be used.
. Provided production support by solving manufacturing problems. Documented
changes through engineering change orders.
Platforms: WINDOWS, Macintosh, VAX/VMS, CMS, and UNIX.
