Summary
Accomplished software engineer with a diverse technical background
including skills in multiple programming paradigms, high level architecture
design, and validation testing with demonstrated success developing and
implementing customer driven solutions to decrease cost and increase
performance for the stakeholders.
Professional Experience
Braintech Incorporated: Software / Application Engineer
Auburn Hills, Michigan (February 2009 - Present)
. Lead designer of the application programming interface between
Braintech's software and all FANUC robots. Responsible for
software maintenance, technical support, documentation, and
troubleshooting customer issues.
. Part of a development team tasked with developing a modular
communication software package, using the component object model
(COM), to support multiple device types and multiple communication
protocols.
. Developing a communication component that serves as a user
interface to utilize and manipulate XML data for configuring each
application, and serves as a development interface that allows the
user to test and validate communication to other devices.
. Currently working with C#, VB, XML, and HTML to further develop
Braintech's software packages.
FANUC Robotics America: Software / Vision Engineer
Rochester Hills, Michigan (August 2007 - December 2008)
. Responsible for leading weekly meetings over a six month time frame
with a major automaker's robotic and process engineering teams.
These meetings were focused on developing the high level design
architecture and process flow for FANUC robots and peripheral
equipment to maximize up-time, flexibility, and consistency for new
manufacturing lines in the automaker's production facilities.
. Generated a software specification and the template code to
validate the design and process flow in a robotic test cell which
simulated the outcome in a production setting.
. Responsible for developing test cases, documenting results,
reporting the outcome, and making recommendations throughout the
project to drive changes to the architecture and process flow.
. Developed application solutions for processes requiring vision
guided 2D and 3D robotics utilizing FANUC Robotics iRVision
integrated vision packages.
. Identified solutions to issues with customer vision systems during
development and integration phases.
. Worked with FANUC Product Engineers to define and create new
product features for iRVision to solve customer problems.
Gentex Corporation: Zeeland, Michigan (September 2003 - August 2007)
Manufacturing Process Technician (March 2004 - August 2007)
. Diagnosed and problem solved software and programming issues with
manufacturing equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers
(PLCs), ABB robots, Epson robots, and machine vision systems
including DVT, Cognex, Banner, and Halcon to increase equipment
productivity.
. Developed Human-Machine Interface software applications using
Microsoft's .NET framework including work in both C# and Visual
Basic.
. Integrated machine vision inspections on existing manufacturing
equipment to detect quality issues associated with recurring
manufacturing problems.
. Development work and project goal achievement in areas that
included PLC programming for general machine control, robotic
applications, safety systems, vision guided robots, HMI
applications and machine vision inspections for quality
verification.
. Served on a manufacturing team, working with process engineers,
designated with the task of refining Gentex's production methods to
decrease costs, increase product quality and increase operational
up-time.
Technical Team Leader (September 2003 - March 2004)
. Served as a manager for fourteen production team members, which
included training, guiding, and supervising their work, to increase
the quality of Gentex's product and increase production yields.
. Supported production line equipment, which included developing
solutions for mechanical and electrical machine issues and
communicating recurring problems to the manufacturing support team.
Altair Engineering: Co-op Student - Mechanical Engineering
Troy, Michigan (January 1999 - September 2002)
. Designed automotive parts, primarily for Ford Motor Company, using
SDRC's I-DEAS CAD software.
. Completed an undergraduate thesis at Altair entitled "Project
Management."
Education
Kettering University (formerly GMI Engineering & Management Institute)
Flint, Michigan (June 2003)
. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
