Work History:
2007 - October 2009
Construction Project Manager - Desert Sky Mobile Home Service (MHS)
As a newly formed company in 2007, it allowed me to continue to manage all
aspects of the construction process for modular and manufactured housing
jobs, just as I did with Palm Harbor. I was charged with coordinating all
jobs with the city utility companies, county inspectors and state
regulators; also, subcontractors including: excavation companies,
electricians, plumbers, drywall finishers, flooring installers, painters,
etc. Desert Sky Mobile Home Service quickly grew from a start-up company
to one of the largest set-up companies in the state of Arizona. The company
set-up four modular show homes at the 2009 International Builders' Show in
Las Vegas and we also tore them down after the show.
2006 - 2007
Construction Project Manager - Southern Arizona Territory - Palm Harbor
Homes
Palm Harbor Homes recruited me to run their Southern-Arizona construction
business. This job honed my skills as a manager of projects and utilized my
personal code of customer service to satisfy my employer and the
homeowners. I was expected to follow each project's profit and loss and
maintain an accounting. This job also required me to work with area
retailers to facilitate the set-up requirements for each home sold through
the various retail establishments. In 2007, Palm Harbor corporate decided
to eliminate the construction departments at every locale. In turn, a
member of the discharged construction team re-established his set-up
company and this company became the primary set-up company for Palm Harbor
and many other retailers in the state. This led to my employment with
Desert Sky MHS.
2004 - 2006
Owner - CEO - Community Construction
Community Construction was a for-profit company created to employ
discharged inmates from Ottawa County, (Oklahoma) Jail. I founded the
company as a for-profit venture and contracted with a modular home
manufacturer as its exclusive set-up crew. The venture worked! Men learned
new skills; gained a living wage and many became useful members of society.
My duties were those of an owner, and they included:
. Managing personnel;
. Communication with the homeowners and coordination with the factory
. Arrange all transportation including DOT communications
. Learn all aspects of state inspections, state licensure, and state
regulations
. Gained general contractor's license
. Handled all aspects of customer service
. Learned excellent skills for team building and project management,
including the set- up and finish of more than 80 homes in 2 years
. Learned to make significant management decisions while working within
a limited time-frame.
My primary concern was and is to satisfy the customer by finishing the
job on time and within budget, while keeping my workers safe and
productive. Unfortunately, the modular home company closed in 2006,
which disbanded my company.
Volunteer & AmeriCore Experience:
2001 - 2004
Served as chaplain for Joplin Community Clinic in Joplin, Missouri where I
was responsible for the spiritual care of our patient population. I worked
closely with the social work department and the psychologists on a multi-
disciplinary team. We performed community outreach, fund-raising and
patient assessment as a team. I also co-founded (with the clinic, using its
501c3) a community service program of the local Hearts & Hammers chapter
for Joplin. This program required that I sell the need to city planners,
local business and the board of the clinic. Once we convinced all the
stakeholders of the need for the program, it was my job to solicit
volunteers, organize all media, solicit all donations and basically create
a functioning non-profit, community based program out of thin air. By all
accounts the program was well received with numerous accolades in the local
press and huge buy-in from community churches, city leaders and government
officials.
