EXPERIENCE

International Paper/Franklin Mill, Franklin, VA

1980 - 2009

Quality Assurance Supervisor (1997-2009)

. Responsible for all aspects of quality for Offset, Specialty and

Xerographic grades of paper. These grades represent 30,200 tons per month

of shipments and $26.2 million per month of gross sales. Involved daily

with ship/no ship decisions for my product lines. Worked intimately with

Customer Technical Services to resolve performance issues at our customer

facilities. Visited customer facilities when required to support field

investigations of our mill products.

. Managed Copier Curl Testing and Sample Room Operations responsible for

four testers and a budget of $290,000. Reduced copier test labor required

by three positions saving $130,000/year.

. Coordinated installation of Computers, Printers, Workstations, and

Network Requirements for new quality data management system. ($225,000)

. Managed our mill complaint data base utilizing SAP system for complaint

documents and Excel for data analysis and trends. Researched and trended

80 to 100 complaints per month with total credits (valued at $100,000 to

$250,000 per month). Monthly results were included in the employee

incentive plan.

. Coordinated site work to develop the new product - Cream White Publishers

Offset. This product was developed for Midland Paper resulting in 500-600

tons per month of new sales. This product was used in the printing of The

DaVinci Code and My Life which is the autobiography of former President

Bill Clinton.

. Hosted 10 to 12 customer visits per year. Explained our manufacturing

processes and conducted walking tours of our paper machines and converting

operations.

. Implemented stock codes to sell grade transition paper reducing plant

waste by 0.27% and generating added profits of $795,000/year.

Senior Industrial Engineer/Team Manager (1995-1997)

. Managed three Industrial Engineers, one Technician and one Facility

Supervisor. Budget responsibility totaled $570,000/year providing

Industrial Engineering project support for paper making operations in the

areas of logistics, cost control, productivity, ergonomics and labor

requirements.

. Implemented material handling changes and reduced product diameters

needed to preserve sales to Armstrong Corp. worth over $800,000/year in

profits.

. Reduced waste generated by our coated board machine by 1% cutting costs

by $750,000/year by working with our crews to more closely equalize the

linear feet of product on parent reels with the linear footage required

for customer rolls.

. Analyzed the staffing required to operate the mill scalehouse. Reduced

Scalehouse operations by one shift per week resulting in $60,000 of labor

savings.

. Led the Continuous Process Improvement Team Responsible for reducing

product handling damage. Savings due to improvements totaled

$500,000/Year.

. Managed our Janitorial Services and building facility maintenance

Industrial Engineer (1980-1995)

. Responsible for providing project Industrial Engineering support paper

making operations in the areas of productivity, material handling,

ergonomics, logistics, cost analysis, and labor requirements. Was promoted

twice during this period.

. Redesigned mill system to receive cores to use of carts. Reduced onsite

core inventory by 10% and reduced core spoilage by 5% for a material

savings of $160,000/Year. Reduced core delivery lead time to a half day.

Core material costs total $3.25 million per year.

. Supervised contractor to construct and subsequently haul coal from a

remote reserve coal pile. Managed a budget of $90,000 and handled 30,000

tons of coal.

. Redesigned our mill system of waste collection. Implemented new system of

self dumping containers and a new truck ($240,000) but avoided hiring two

new laborers and reduced existing staff by one operator.

. Coordinated the logistics of our mill fiber feeding plans to support

production during a 43 day outage of our largest Recovery Boiler. Managed

the accumulation and subsequent utilization of 15,000 tons of fiber valued

at $2.8 million. Managed the mill daily fiber utilization plan

coordinating the fiber demand vs. fiber production capability during this

seven week period. Project results were outstanding.

. Instituted use of a modified Whitney Snake Tong to facilitate safe

removal of debris from hydrapulpers and other production equipment.

Product Engineer

. Responsible for statistical analysis of car dimensional data, preparation

of company responses to legal and governmental inquiries. Also,

responsible for identifying and quantifying differences between Canadian

and US Warranty Systems and conducting part performance comparison studies

utilizing the Ford Motor Co. Management Information System
