feed based system with data loaded by mostly overnight batch
processes. The input feeds are from Mainframe and other
source systems and received in the form of Unix flat files.
The datastore is in Sybase with batch written in Unix shell
scripts and Informatica for ETL. A scheduling tool called CA
Unicenter is used for schedule and running the batch
processes. It also feeds the data to another Windows based
vendor product application in SQL Server for Fee calculation
and maintenance. This requires batches involving SQL Server
2000 DTS and store procedures.

Project POS2000
Title
Customer FDMS (First Data Merchant Services), MD, USA
Duration March 2002 - March 2004
Technology Unix, Shell Scripting, Oracle 8i
Project The Primary business of FDMS (First Data Merchant Services)
Abstract is to provide services on the Credit Card Transactions to
merchants all over USA. Merchant could be an individual
retail unit or a chain retail unit. FDMS is like a business
unit between Merchants providing credit card transactions and
the Banks issuing Credit Cards. So merchants instead of
claiming their credit card dues directly from the card
issuing banks goes via the FDMS, essentially to get benefits
like faster processing time, minimizing risk (to some
extent), etc...
For providing credit card transactions the retail unit needs
various kinds of equipment (Terminals with Credit Card
Reader, Pin Pad, etc) to allow purchase of items using Credit
Cards, authorizing the validity of the cards. POS2000 system
is used by FDMS to maintain all information about Vendor,
Equipment and Merchants.
Role Abhijit is the module lead.
Knowledge Acquisition & Transfer: In initial phase, he was
involved in detail knowledge gathering of the application at
client site. After returning back to offshore, he transferred
the knowledge to other team members.
Production Support: The team supports around 100 overnight
batch processes from offshore location, User-call support and
also doing enhancements. The batch processes includes oracle
procedures as well as UNIX shells scripts.
Development & Maintenance: The team has implemented various
new batch processes. Abhijit is primarily involved in
analysis, design and development of the oracle procedures as
well as Unix shell scripts.
