Hewlett Packard
Senior program manager roles 1995 -
Present
Utility Computing: Pay per Use (PPU) for Servers and Storage
hp.com/go/utility
Led cross organizational team to define and deliver the first Unix server
& Storage PPU solutions, with billing based on metered usage,
contributing over $100M/yr in incremental revenue.
. Turned around a situation where the teams were out of sync and not
converging.
* Original metering plan fell apart late in the cycle; creative, quick
and substantial change of plans enabled timely release and captured
market leadership.
* Defined requirements for metering appliance (including services) &
usage web portal.
* Led definition and execution of "end-to-end" test plan including NPI
pilot.
* Managed customer betas. Wrote whitepapers and trained the field.
IT Transformation process & tool hp.com/go/cimm
Defined requirements and managed implementation of sales enablement tool
to evaluate customer's IT maturity, and using algorithms recommends
targeted HP solutions to transform their IT.
* Crafted product recommendations using consultative language focusing
on benefits
* Managed migration of tool from in-house tool in China to a third party
platform.
* Wrote test plan, managed test execution and tracked defects using
lightweight processes.
* Maturity assessments are delivered as a service and resulted in sales
leads valued over $100M.
Next Generation Data Center (NGDC) & internal Cloud (IaaS) solutions
hp.com/go/ci
As a recognized expert in HP on IT transformation and data center
products and services I present to executives at HP's briefing center
focusing on benefits to promote sales and gather requirements.
. Led investigation of factory integrated cloud infrastructure (IaaS):
Blade systems with storage arrays, switches, virtualization,
management & automation software. Determined what could be integrated
in the factory now, and identified dependencies to enable full factory
integration.
. Key contributor to the marketing launch of NGDC initiative: sales
enablement collateral (whitepapers, competitive analysis, and
training to promote portfolio of products.
. Led multi-division team to define demo scenarios featuring integration
of HP products. Managed demo development including scripting of demo
videos focusing on the business benefits.
Integrated data center in-a-box solution (UDC)
UDC is a complete wire-once dynamically adjustable factory integrated
data center solution including shared pool of servers and storage, broad
range of management software.
. UDC was hard-coded to support specific models of servers only. Studied
the source code and developed a process to enable other server models
to work in a UDC.
. Managed a team of engineers in India to create an implementation kit
to enable customers to use their existing servers in a UDC.
Utility Computing: instant Capacity on Demand (iCOD) for Servers
hp.com/go/utility
Led definition and implementation of industry leading iCOD solution
(patent issued). iCOD enables customers to delay payment for CPUs till
they use them. Installed in HP servers valued over $1B.
. Defined business process, technical architecture and requirements for
all functions including R&D, manufacturing (NPI), IT, support, sales
and legal; defined and managed end-to-end testing.
. Defined auditing solution requirements: record shipments, detect CPU
usage & payments
. Creative tradeoffs to release early to get the #1 position while
improving the solution over time.
. Wrote whitepaper to educate software developers on dealing with
dynamic (iCOD) systems
. Developed and institutionalized a process to ensure all future CPUs
are available in iCOD form
. Operations: Monitored metrics, managed escalations, and auditing
issues
Security solutions program manager
Identified and promoted integration opportunities among HP's wide range
of security products consisting of smart cards, PKI, intrusion detection,
authorization server and single sign-on
Accomplishments at Hewlett Packard prior to 1995 include:
Telecommunications solutions project manager
. Built demo and bid on RFPs partnering with vendors (Cap-Gemini,
Vicorp, Summa Four, ..)
. Won $15M deal for telephone calling card system for Sprint and
designed a solution with partner companies that included IVR &
database replication.
Support engineer & project manager for network software and firmware
. Fixed bugs in HP's Unix kernel & user space for NIS, RPC & NFS
. Developed tool enabling object code modification without the need
to edit source code
. Supported link level (layer 2) X.25 (lapb), RJE (bisync) & SDLC
firmware on HP servers
. Creatively and pragmatically refocused support engineering team
enabling the team to meet objectives with half the number of
engineers and enabling more new product development.
Hardware and firmware design engineer for instruments
. Designed hardware and firmware to enable digital waveform recorder
to playback captured signals.
