Senior Mechanical Technologist Mechanical Sep 1985-Feb 2007
Engineering Department
New Technology Engineering Division Beam Research
Program
. Worked as a team member of Beam Research Group (BRP) which effectively
collaborated on several projects with exceptional results in the
conceptualization through final electro /mechanical design at the Los
Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Stanford Linear Accelerator Collider
(SLAC) and LLNL facility.
. Partnered with UC Davis Medical Center in devising three iterations for
a low-cost proton therapy cancer treatment facility, including 100kV Gas
Switch Blumlien, 270kV Oil Switch Blumlien and 1MeV Oil Switch Blumlien.
. Partnered with SLAC to design the infrastructure, tank and stand
assembly of an 8-Pack Test Stand that contained 1300 hundred gallons of
oil and supported 40,000 pounds when fully assembled. The Test Stand was
considered to be one of the basic building blocks for the Next Linear
Collider (NLC).
. Effectively designed and organized the fabrication and assembly of the
Solid State Kicker Assembly for Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test
Facility II (DARHT II) at LANL, which culminated two years of R&D effort
and was the centerpiece of the program's deliverables shipped to the
DARHT II facility.
. Adapted the Modulator Cell Assembly in setting up and fabricating
numerous iterations of the mechanical components associated with the
Solid State Kicker Pulser Assembly for the Advanced Hydrotest Facility
(AHF) at LANL; the Modulator Cell Assembly was also used in the NLCTA's
8-Pack Test Stand.
. Worked in partnership with the EE staff to design and organize the
fabrication and assembly of the mechanical cell components with 60 cells
associated with the Solid State Kicker Purser Assemblies for the DARTH
II facility, also a programmatic deliverable.
. Played an integral role in the system administration of the Pro/ENGINEER
CAD CAM products, assuming responsibilities for installation,
configuration and maintenance of Pro/E on the BRP servers and client
machines.
. Designed, fabricated and assembled the Experimental Test Accelerator II
(ETA II) Short Kicker within a tight schedule, allowing the BRP to meet
major year-end milestone for the DARTH II Kicker Assembly integration
testing.
. Proactively assisted in the design of the Dielectric Wall Accelerator
(DWA) High Voltage Teat Stand NLCTA's Modulator Cell as well as in the
assembly of FXR Pulsed Coaxial Load and LBL Gammasphere beam line.
Accelerator Research Engineering Division / Beam Research
Program
. Effectively supported numerous experiments, which included three
generations of Linear Induction Accelerators for the Security Defense
Initiative (SDI) program, Relative Klystron, Pulse Sharpener Reset
Network, ETA II, Advanced Test Accelerator (ATA) and Scram Jets for the
Super High Atmosphere Research Program.
