Project / Program Manager (2002-4/2010)
Skillfully coordinate engineers and integrated product teams (IPT) to meet
electronic supply needs for aging fleet of Boeing aircraft; ensure
availability of components necessary for production of 450+ products with
combined delivery rate of 60,000+ units annually. Monitor obsolete part
notices and industry trends, develop implementation proposals and
schedules, and lead execution of inventive solutions that reduce risk,
lower cost, improve product quality, and prevent obsolescence issues from
impacting manufacturing and customer value.
Key Achievements:
. Managed excess inventory process for obsolete components and completed
assemblies; achieved $4M+ in excess inventory reduction since 2006.
. Established and managed engineering lab for root cause analysis and
testing of OEM product returns; reduced project back-log by more than
80% with zero increase in staffing.
. Leveraged product life cycle strategic planning to incorporate
technical advances that improve product profit margin; led component
redesign that saved $1M annually through 2016.
. Completed three-phase project that transformed print room services
operation; consolidation and automation captured approximately $1.3M+
in savings annually.
. Facilitated Six Sigma project that improved functional test yields by
more than 56%.
. Managed cross-organizational multifunctional project to design 70+
test cables within aggressive FAA commit date to eliminate flawed
production test process.
. Supervised test engineering transition of Boeing flight deck and
flight control modules from Boeing Seattle to Boeing Irving; planned
product off-load and identified test staffing, training, and resource
needs to support 727 through 777 avionics.
. Received 'Pride at Boeing' award from Long Beach Spares Division for
outstanding "Quality of Customer Service and Delivery Performance."
Deftly managed portfolio of avionics supporting McDonald Douglas
aircraft; led team to close delinquent orders, eliminate
cancellations, boost revenue generation, and return customer to high
satisfaction and confidence.
777 MBU Engineering Manager (2001-2002)
Managed diverse group of test, manufacturing, process, and industrial
engineers, planners, and technologists; delivered world-class support on
product build, functional testing, and environmental stress screening (ESS)
for Boeing 777 airplane avionic assemblies.
Key Achievements:
. Partnered with design engineering to improve testability, yields,
manufacturing processes, and cost efficiency of avionic and flight
deck assemblies.
. Managed development of functional and wire test procedures critical to
performing accurate acceptance testing for flight deck and avionic
products.
Project Manager / Engineering Department (1997-2001)
Held responsibility to support an engineering staff proving project
scheduling, budgeting, operations support, and employee performance
measurements for team of test engineers, technologist, drafters, and
support coordinators performing document preparation, configuration
control, print room services, test engineering, and tool engineering.
Planned and executed automatic test programs development to improve low-
value stream test yields, and identified improvements to product acceptance
functional test requirements.
Key Achievements:
. Aided in devising new manufacturing test strategy and implementing in-
circuit testing as part of continuous process improvement; eliminated
custom development costs while still supporting advanced technology
designed into Boeing's 7-series aircraft models.
. Directed cross-functional team to consolidate 23 computing platforms
into new configuration control management system prior to Y2K
deadline.
. Championed project that reduced volume of certified tooling and audit
findings; improved on-time certification compliance company-wide to
less than 1 / mo., and automated tool tracking process to cut excess
tooling by 42%, reducing risk of failing compliance requirements and
eliminating unnecessary calibration and maintenance costs.
. Led replacement of seven automatic test systems at life cycle end;
planned strategy for $3.2M capital project that beat ROI estimate,
including cost to re-host 1,400+ test programs.
. Represented test engineering to successfully integrate engineering's
Test Strategies with the Enterprise Business Systems (BAAN).
. Represented and prepared organization for flawless regulatory audits,
achieving successful FAA, ISO9001:2000, and AS9100B certifications.
Training Supervisor, Human Resource Department (1995-1997)
Managed 11-member training department, and directed programs covering
employee recruitment, skills evaluation, and annual assembler certification
training for all personnel.
Key Achievements:
. Boosted department performance and morale by upgrading tools,
equipment, lesson plans, training aides, and computers.
. Achieved high rates of productivity from entire team during period of
explosive growth, with 500 certified employees added to payroll.
Test Engineering Supervisor, Engineering Department (1982-1995)
Managed a staff of test engineers, technologist, drafters, and support
coordinators. Functional areas included drafting, configuration control,
print room services, test engineering, and tool engineering. Responsible
for staffing, directing, budgeting, employee development and evaluation,
and operational support. Outputs include development of automatic test
programs, low value stream test yields, and identifying product acceptance
functional test requirement improvements for flight deck, flight control,
and cabin management avionics.
Key Achievements:
. Managed and supervised the Test Engineering (TE) transition of Boeing
flight deck and flight control modules from Boeing Seattle to Boeing
Irving. Objectives included the identification of test equipment,
tooling, software, and program development systems needed to support 727
through 777 avionics. Responsibilities include strategic product off-
load planning, TE staffing, identification of product test requirements,
and training staff required to meet the off-load schedule.
. Managed a cross organizational multifunctional project team to design 78
multipurpose robust test cables to meet a Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) commit date to eliminate a flawed production test process. The
project included strategic planning, design and approval, acquiring
material, building over 500 cables, and integrating over 2,000 test
programs to use the new cables.
. Worked concurrent with design engineering to develop a manufacturing test
strategy to support the advanced technology designed into Boeing's 777
aircraft and cabin management system eliminating the cost to develop
unique PWA functional test requirements, automatic test software, and
supporting special test equipment.
. Successfully implemented in-circuit testing as part of the overall
manufacturing test strategy, providing continuous process improvement,
and eliminating the need for costly printed circuit assembly functional
testing. Included the design of a Automatic Test System to augment
HP3075 in-circuit testing with functional testing of printed wire
assemblies.
. Worked concurrent with Systems and Design Engineering to develop and
implement effective Avionic test strategies for Boeing's commercial
airplane models (727, 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777).
