Data network engineer with a reputation as a talented technical writer, a
dynamic leader of cohesive, productive project teams, and a proven ability
to create a service from requirements specifications through design and
testing. Employed by a globally-deployed data network provider to create
and document new services, to provide solutions to networking problems and
to deploy those services and solutions in a team setting. Provided support
and training for the developed services to both Operations and
Marketing/Sales groups.
o Created all documentation for the video conferencing service for the
BTInfonet product line, including Operations & Support manuals, design
documents, and dial plans. Led the engineering team that created and
deployed the BTInfonet Internal Video network.
o Wrote the User manual and Administrator's guide for the Center of
Excellence, Los Angeles. . This cloud-computing environment reduced
equipment duplication, significantly decreased development costs, and
minimized organizational cost through product standardization and
tracking of hardware and software. In 2008, the Lab Virtualization
project received an honorable mention British Telecom Gold Award for
significant project or contribution to innovation across BT.
o Created the documentation required to support the project that
replaced outdated network equipment with more feature-rich equipment
that meshed more completely with network backbone and management
equipment. These included Operations & Support manuals, configuration
guides and network management guidelines. The completion of this
project saved the company several million dollars in hardware
maintenance and software licensing fees.
o Represented the Design Engineering group in all ISO-9000 audits. The
group's documentation always passed the audit process.

EXPERIENCE
BT Design/British Telecom February 1985 to September
2009
Senior Engineer
British Telecom operates a worldwide data network that supports voice and
video as well as data communications services. They serve multinational
corporations by maintaining a world-class network with local support.
Their client base includes many Fortune 500 companies.
2008 to Present: Lab Virtualization:
. Created the documentation that described the Administrative processes
within the lab, how to navigate in and use the lab and how to
implement changes within the lab setting. This cloud-computing
environment reduced equipment duplication, significantly decreased
development costs, and minimized organizational cost through product
standardization and tracking of hardware and software.
. Created a User Guide for my engineering group describing the use of
Spirent/Avalanche automated test gear. This guide allowed engineers
who were not familiar with the equipment to come up to speed on it in
half the time it took when using the manufacturer's User Guides.
. Authored and maintained eight Wiki pages for the lab's Sharepoint
server.
2003 to 2008: Video Development Engineering
. Led the engineering team that created BTInfonet's Video Conferencing
service. This included:
o Creating the documentation to support the service for use by the
Operations group
o Authoring training materials for both Operations and Sales
groups.
o Documentation of all design specifications for all components of
the service.
o Participation in creating the network design, qualification of
video vendors and equipment and development of solutions for
conference scheduling/auto launch, equipment monitoring and for
billing.
1985-2003: Network Development Engineering
Led the deployment project that replaced outdated network equipment with
more feature-rich equipment that meshed more completely with network
backbone and management equipment.
. Created all documentation for the project including Operations manuals
and configuration guides.
. Documented the project plan that coordinated the work of seven
engineers for this project, which required the replacement of high-
capacity network equipment in 42 countries across six continents.
This project was brought in on-time and under-budget.
. The completion of this project saved the company several million
dollars in hardware maintenance and software licensing fees as well as
provided greater access rates to be able to sell to customers.
. Documented, researched, tested, and helped to deploy all components of
the Infonet X.25 network.
. Created and documented all access device and protocol converter
configurations.
. Documented, developed and deployed an integrated ISDN Dial Backup
solution for our customer base using Controlware products.
