PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
GUANGDONG VANTICO POLYMERS CO., LTD. - Guangzhou, China 2000 - 2003
R&D Chemist - Responsibilities included new product development, existing
product modification, support to manufacturing and sales. Made significant
contributions to the following areas:
New Product Development
> Developed a latent-curing epoxy system, which was applied as an
electrical insulating material.
> Co-developed a hazy-resistant epoxy coating for applications in humid
environment. The product was sold to new customers in humid southern
China regions.
> Introduced and evaluated the application of local raw materials into
our product formulas to reduce costs.
> Continuously monitored and applied new raw materials to our products.
Technical Support
> Worked with the Production Department to scale up new product
manufacturing.
> Solved application problems from customers and gave process improvement
suggestions to the Production Department to ensure stable product
quality.
> Compared competitors' product performances for sales to make the proper
marketing plan.
Lab Management
> Established a new coating application lab including design,
coordinating the construction and setting up all the equipment.
> Annual instrument and equipment calibration.
> Lab chemical inventory management.
> Responsible for R&D lab's safety, environment and health issues as an
EHS committee member.
> Helped purchase new instruments such as new mixer, DSC, Brookfield
rheometer.

ADDITIONAL RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY - Starkville, MS, USA 2009 - Present
Post-doctoral Research Associate - Modified carbon nanofiber and applied to
carbon nanofiber/vinyl ester composites.
> Modified CNF (carbon nanofiber) surfaces by oxidation, coupling and
graft polymerization.
> Prepared CNF/VE (vinyl ester) composites and optimized the preparation
process.
> Investigated different composite formulations, analyzed composite
mechanical properties and microstructures.
MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY - Starkville, MS, USA 2003 - 2008
Graduate Research Assistant - Synthesized novel epoxy-functionalized
surfactants and applied them to modify clays. Investigated the effect of
modification and different epoxy curing agents on clay dispersion.
> Designed and synthesized new imidazolium surfactants with epoxy
functional groups.
> Purified the new compounds by flash column chromatography,
recrystallization and extraction.
> Identified the compound structures with NMR and FTIR.
> Prepared clay/epoxy composites with different formulas and
characterized the clay/epoxy composites with XRD, SEM, TEM, Instron,
TGA and DSC.
