OBJECTIVE:
To obtain a stable position in a design/manufacturing position which
will allow me to improve productivity and continue my career growth.
ACCOMPILSHMENTS:
Design Engineer:
. Designed embedded control systems from concept through production.
. Schematic capture and PCB layout for up to 4 layer PCB's.
. I have designed single board Mixed signal systems containing; 30uV
communication signals, 5V TTL/CMOS digital systems, and +/- 12 volt
differential signals.
. Design of new and unique control systems for peripheral audio/video
devices.
. Worked on design teams of Mechanical Engineers, CADD engineers,
Software engineers, Project engineers, and others to successfully
complete projects.
. Team Lead/Mentor. I have lead design teams of 3-4 junior engineers
to complete projects. I have also helped other engineers with
problems they had on their separate projects.
. I was responsible for selecting individual components and reviewing
their performance specifications to ensure they meet design
requirements.
. Tools used: Orcad, Protel, PCad, Avocet, and PSpice.
. Listed on Patent for in room location detection system.
Software Engineer:
. I have written Embedded code for manufacturing testers, peripheral
controllers, and 'one time' test de-bugging systems.
. I wrote programs for functional testing of analog/digital, low
level RF, and mechanical testing assemblies.
. Decreased test cycle time at Kimball Electronics and Panasonic by
25% by optimizing the test code.
. Software used included; Assemble, C++, C, Labwindows CVI, and
Visual Basic.
. Communication protocols used: RS-232, RS-485, GPIB, CAN, SPI, I2C,
Serial, and MySQL.
Manufacturing Engineer:
. I Design functional test systems for testing single boards and
final assemblies. This involved:
> Meeting with customers to define test requirements.
> Documenting test specifications.
> Obtaining customer approval of test specification.
> Designing appropriate interfacing equipment.
> Selecting off the shelf test equipment.
> System integration.
> Perform final system verification, Gauge R&R.
. Perform Prototype testing.
. Decreased false failures. False failures were decreased by
recognizing the noise/interference of the manufacturing environment
and minimizing them.
. Corrected production issues. This involved equipment failure, PCB
contamination, Operator error...
. I perform failure analysis on production assemblies. This could be
due to incorrect component placement, value, orientation,
shorts/opens on PCB, or excessive stress due to test equipment.
. I supported production lines I was responsible for, assisted other
engineers with issues their lines may have and supported production
in Poland and Mexico.
. Thermal life cycle and shock testing.
. I have been asked to solve design/production problems whith other
in-house engineers and outside consulting firms could not. These
have involved; memory leaks, software timing, low voltage shutdown
and power up timing issues.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
April 2007 - June 2009
Panasonic - Peachtree City, GA
Senior Test Engineer
. Design of Hardware and write Software to support the
manufacturing of new assemblies.
. Re-write the main core software used by Panasonic as their test
base which resulted in test time reduction of 25%, decreased
communication errors, increased error/failure tracking and
improved capture of script errors.
. Solved fixing tester failures and production issues.
. I led many small development teams on projects and their support
in manufacturing.
. I initiated the development of documentation for projects that
were sent to Mexico.
. Panasonic closed its doors in mid June 2009. All production was
shipped to .
September 2006 - April 2007
Smiths Aerospace - Grand Rapids, MI
(6 month contract)
Software Engineer
. Perform software verification to ensure the other employees
software performs correctly. This meant that the software
returned correct responses to valid and invalid inputs. I also
write software for use in 'Environmentally Stressed' conditions.
. I also write software sub-tests. These tests are incorporated in
the body of the tests to test assemblies in 'Environmental
Stress Chambers'.
June 2000-Jan 2006
Kimball Electronics - Jasper, Indiana
Advanced Test Engineer
. My position as an Advanced Test Engineer was to design the
equipment necessary to support manufacturing of customer
assemblies. This involved designing the hardware and writing the
software to ensure that the final assemblies meet customer
specifications. I have also evaluated customer designs and
pointed out flaws in their circuit designs which could cause
possible operational failures.
. Schematic capture and PCB layout.
. I wrote programs for monitoring temperatures and capturing test
data, from UUT's, while thermal cycling.
. Kimball laid off the entire Test Engineering Dept in 2006 due to
decreased production and lack of new projects.
1990-2000
LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation - Sioux Falls, SD
Senior Design Engineer
. Design systems based on Analog, Digital, and RF technology.
Select components used for system design. Train junior design
engineers and engineering associates on PC Board design, proper
circuit design, manufacturing processes, and troubleshooting
techniques.
. Lead in the evaluation of new technologies for use by LodgeNet.
. Design of PCB's using Orcad and Protel, for use in analog,
digital, and low level RF (up to 100 MHZ) systems. These systems
were used in IR digital Remote Controls, VCR controllers,
Video/Audio switching systems, and RF communication over cable
TV systems.
Prior to 1989
Metal Stamping operator.
Quality Control for Plastic injection process.
Supervisor for metal forming company.
