Research & Experience:
Intern, Dynamic Engineering Purity Inc., Houston, TX, USA
Feb 2009 - Jul 2009
. Developed and modeled Trichlorosilane and Silane production plant for
the production of Polysilicon using Aspen Plus
. Designed Distillation columns using KG TOWER 3.2
. Designed Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) and Packed Bed Reactors (PBR)
. Studied different metallic, non-metallic, organic and inorganic
impurities present in metallurgical grade silicon (MG-Si) and their
separation techniques
Researcher, Lamar University, Beaumont, TX, USA
Aug 2007 - Aug 2009
. Worked on Chlorosilanes and its Purification for production of
polysilicon which is the essential raw material for the manufacture of
PV cells (solar). Here metallic graded silicon (MGS) containing many
impurities is hydrogenated, redistributed, recycled and is purified
using columns to get electronic/solar grade silicon
. Worked on STC converter and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) reactor
for Silane production using Aspen Plus
. Designed Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) and Packed Bed Reactors (PBR)
. Fine tuned distillation columns using Aspen Plus
. Studied different reactors like Gibbs, CSTR, PFR, and Stoichiometric
Reactors in Silane production using Aspen Plus
. Exporting Aspen Plus back file to Dynamics, detailed study of
controllers, fine tuning of controllers and adding task for step
change
. Developed an Interface between Aspen and Excel using VB forms to
automate an validation schema for different inputs
. Developed an Aspen Plus steady state model for Ethylene recovery
section of the plant. Data screening, mass, and energy balance
calculations were carried out in order to fit data into plant data and
to match temperature profile.
Teaching Assistant, Lamar University, Beaumont, TX, USA
Jan 2008 - May 2008
. Tutored students on Aspen Plus and Aspen Dynamics and helped develop
problem solving skills
. Mentored students on Microsoft Excel for engineering purposes
. Organized quizzes and class discussions and Assisted students in
solving problems and presenting materials
Intern, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., Hyderabad, AP, India
May 2005 - Aug 2005
. Effective and timely engineering support to core manufacturing process
operations
. Provide plant and process engineering support to large scale biologics
manufacturing
. Support process changes and scale-up projects from operations side
. Understand and/or follow technical documents for above activities
including technical reports, specifications, protocols, procedures
. Effectively interacting with other departments
Site Engineer, IUS Equipments Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, India
July 2006 - June 2007
. Piping and Commissioning of Pharmaceutical plant
. Developed an Isometric view of the plant
. Effectively supervised a team
Projects:
Undergraduate course project:
Engineered a group project on "Manufacture of Hydrazine". It dealt
with various aspects like selection of best manufacturing process,
mass and energy balances, chemical and mechanical Design of
Equipments, Plant Layout and Cost Estimation.
Graduate course projects:
. Developed "Design of DCS and TCS redistribution reactors in Silane
production" (Thesis, MS), in which a Silane plant was developed and
modeled and a methodology to design distillation columns was carried
out. A steady state model of DCS and TCS redistribution reactors was
developed and detailed designing of the same in a fixed bed catalytic
reactor using ion-exchange resin (catalyst) was carried out, both
using Aspen Plus
. Developed a simulation model for "Manufacture of Styrene" using Aspen
Plus. It dealt with various aspects like selection of best
thermodynamic package, design specs for better purity, cost analysis,
optimization to maximize profit and sensitivity analysis is performed
for tuning of columns and for better conversion rate in reactors
. Developed a model using HYSYS for the Colbert Refinery Company HF
alkylation unit based on test run data provided in Kaes' "Modeling an
HF Alkylation Unit". Results from the model matches the test run
. Presented a project on "Biomass Energy". It dealt with various aspects
like where does biomass comes from, how biomass is converted to
energy, bio-fuels, bio-power, present scenario of biomass energy and
how it plays a major role as energy source in the future
Skills:
. Programming Languages: Familiar with C, C++, VBA (Visual Basic
Applications) & CAPE OPEN
