Engineering Experience
Corning Incorporated
2001 - 2005
Process Engineer - Process and Assembly Engineering
Integrated Die Manufacturing wEDM 6 Sigma Variability Reduction -
Environmental Technologies
. Green Belt for support to variability reduction projects in
Environmental Technologies.
. Assessed and evaluated 2 years worth of process data of over 150 Ultra
Thinwall dies that were used to manufacture filters for catalytic
converters in automotive industry internal combustion engine exhaust
systems.
. Developed a system of collecting and analyzing slot width data for
over 25 die types including automotive, diesel and specialty dies.
This work became the cornerstone for current methods of data analysis
in various variability reduction projects.
. Provided key engineering support for the wire electrical discharge
machining facility and developed a total of 6 troubleshooting guides
for the machinists to use in order to reduce die variability which
directly increased productivity in the extrusion of sellable product
filters.
. Conducted several process understanding experiments which showed that
an additional 10% variability reduction in die product could be
achieved by eliminating machinist interruption at key phases of die
slitting.
. Conducted a Gage R & R analysis to support qualification of an image
analysis machine for dies. This added 100% capacity to the
measurements module in terms of image analysis measurement capability.
Integrated Die Manufacturing wEDM Capacity Enhancement - Environmental
Technologies
. Qualified and started up a new wire electrical discharge machine for
production use after many previous attempts by plant personnel using
comprehensive experiment planning. This resulted in a 20% increase in
production capacity and reduced annual outsourcing costs to
manufacture dies by $650,000.
. Identified root cause of die slot quality defects and re-calibrated
equipment settings which reduced scrap numbers by 50% translating to a
savings of $150,000 annually.
. Facilitated many KT problem analysis sessions for several key projects
in environmental engineering.
. Received a Division Cash Award (DCA) in recognition of successful
implementation of cost saving procedures.
Die Manufacturing of 600/3 and 350/5.5 Die performance - Environmental
Technologies
. Analyzed 100% slot width data for die performance troubleshooting of
two die Thinwall families for a key customer to identify trends and
variability that potentially influenced die performance.
. Participated in weekly meetings with the customer to answer questions
on manufacturing technical issues which resulted in increased
confidence and satisfaction in the die making facility from the
customer.
. Constant communication with the customer provided the groundwork for a
number of experiments on reducing manufacturing defects. This led to
savings in scrap product which ran in the $100,000's.
State College 2211 Expansion - Corning Asahi Video
. Developed, maintained and updated the growing SDS Access database for
the 2211 expansion which consisted of over 600 data sheets.
. Evaluated hydraulic and solids loading to the waste water treatment
plant and also evaluated thermal loading of various waste water
streams in order to assess the environmental impact of the 2211
expansion.
. Saved expansion costs by showing that the waste water and tonnage of
solid waste would not exceed the internal wastewater treatment plant's
capacity of 600 gpm waste water and 20 million tons of solid waste per
year respectively.
. Acted as the liaison between contractors and the plant in the piping
reconfiguration required for the hot end area of the facility.
Diesel Robust Cordierite Quality Control - Environmental Technologies
. Coordinated all lab physical properties testing from 14 tests on three
diesel robust cordierite samples per week.
. Restructured and maintained data files of all physical properties on
diesel parts and communicated experimental results at weekly team
meetings to drive increased production yields.
. Evaluated a diesel particulate filter back-pressure testing rig that
was out of production due to high variability. Reduced variability on
the testing rig by 25% which corresponded to the long-term measurement
variability goal. Developed SOPs and control charts for the modified
system.
Other Experience
McGill University Health Center
2005 - present
Administrative Officer
Radiation Oncology - Patient Liaison
. Act as the liaison between patients and medical staff within the
department and other cancer treatment hospitals/facilities.
. Work directly with 20 doctors to coordinate treatment for over 150
patients per month to ensure that radiation and chemotherapy begins
within medical timelines and government standards.
Emergency Room - Administrative Technician
. Managed payroll and scheduling for 35 nurses and 10 clerical staff.
. Participated in improvement projects with departmental management to
shorten wait times for treatment in the ER.
