When asked to describe myself in eight words or less, I say, expert
solutions provider with global enterprise leadership experience.
My career has evolved and progressed thru a series of fortuitous and
blessed opportunities over a 14 year period. Each progression a build
block of knowledge, understanding and real world experience.
My inception into IT was that of an Oracle database administrator. As a
DBA I learned the critical nature of properly modeled data. With the right
data, you can accurately forecast trends, set business expectations,
understand, retain and attract new customers. As I matured into this role
I realized that I needed to understand what the database lived on, how the
network connected the end users, what applications/systems accessed the
data and finally who was accessing the data. Once you master one RDBS
system you understand them all.
As a software developer I learned the necessity to build a product that
exceeds business requirements and was intuitive for the end user
experience. User friendly, conceptual simplicity and structural complexity
was a methodology I developed. During this period I learned to design
applications using object modeling, modular design, and reusable code. At
first, my coding followed the brute force method, than eventually developed
into sophisticated elegant coding. This experience taught me that
applications must be tightly coupled with the back-end systems.
After several years of development/consulting/contracting experience I
landed a position as a data center engineer. During these years I expanded
the breadth of my systems understanding by become an applications
integrator. In this role I learned the best practices to deploy N-tier
systems, how security can be an asset and not a burden in these
environments and how system loads affect design beyond the business
requirements. The most important lesson learned during this period was to
always keep the long-term picture in mind.
Throughout my career one of my passions has been networking. This is a
technology that was designed with such resiliency that even the worst
implemented networks will work; albeit with my issues. A few years into
this career I discovered that I had an aptitude for networking which has
developed and matured over the course of my career.
The next logical step in this career landed me in management. I immersed
myself in budgeting, cost reduction activities, alignment of IT operations
with business initiatives. I have discovered that my ability to affect
positive change, "get the job done right the first time", is now measurable
against the company's revenue. I have been privilege to lead several
global teams, giving me insight into the different working cultures across
the globe.
The culmination of all my technical expertise and experience has been a
Solutions Architect. On multiple global projects I was responsible for
providing complete end to end solutions taking into account business
requirements, budgets, geographical resources, etc. When designing any
solution I always keep the big picture in mind.
