I have taken five semesters of coursework spanning the undergraduate and

graduate level that are relevant to the conceptual and technical usage of

GIS.

o Determined site feasibility for a business in Buffalo, New York

as a function of population and distance factors

Discussed conceptual frameworks for a variety of models used in

contemporary GIS research.

. Geographic Information Techniques in Urban Planning

Synthesized a suitability map for a potential greenway in the

Charlotte region.

o Assigned capability scores to existing layers using various

ArcToolbox commands such as Select by Attribute, Buffer

creation, Clip and Dissolve to create a super overlay layer of

all relevant factors

o Ranked pertinent factors and implemented a weighting method

using the Rank Order Centroid (ROC) technique to assign

suitability of land to the super overlay to create an Analytical

Unit layer

o Modeled potential greenway by converting the Analytical Unit to

raster and then through the usage of Spatial Analyst tools like

Cost Weighted and Shortest Path delineated the greenway

o Gained experience with Model Builder

Other Research

My primary research interests are in economic and political geography.

. Created an in-depth site feasibility report for a small business in

the Charlotte region based on current and forecasted economic trends,

as well as an assessment of the potential economic impact of the

business.

. In progress: Completed capstone research project on voter roll-off in

Charlotte; used GIS as a visual tool to display data on the

socioeconomic status of Charlotte voters.
