M anager, Waseca Ink Company and East Coast Ink, divisions of Brown Printing

I currently manage all aspects of two printing ink manufacturing sites, producing a total of more than

20 mill ion

pounds of oil-based heat-set inks annually, with a staff of 11 in Waseca, MN, and 6 in Palm, PA.

I a m the l iaison between the ink manufacturing facilit ies and three large pressrooms and I

am responsible for raw materials selection, product formulations, product manufacture, two

QC labs, pressroom troubleshooting, environmental compliance and certifications, and health and

safety.

1. In conjunction with raw material vendors, I have developed consistent, t rouble-free

formulations which run on all presses.

2. I have greatly improved manufacturing efficiency.

3. I have reduced material and overhead costs dramatically.

4. I have increased the abilities of the Waseca laboratory to provide technical support

to the printing plants. We are now able to perform some paper, and pressroom

chemical testing, in addition to updating ink testing instruments.

Convergent L abel Technology, I nc. 2002 – 2003

Quality/P rocess Engineer

I created a quality control laboratory to test printed work, and paper.

Responsible for the quality of pressure sensitive labels, mainly pharmaceutical.

1. I started up the quality control lab

2. Trained and managed QC personnel.

3. Assisted with product development, and I am a co-inventor on a patent developed

a t this company.

4. Convergent Label lost its largest customer and went out of business.

Creative Games, I nternational 2001 - 2002

Quality Cont rol Manager

I assisted with a new plant start-up. Creative Games was then owned by my previous

employer, Canadian Bank Note, Co. Ltd., and I was asked to assist them with starting a

scratch-off lottery printing plant, relocated from two former printing facilities.

I set up a new laboratory

Sericol, I nc. 1997 – 2001

Senior Scientist

Responsible for formulating UV Curable l ithographic, letterpress, and f lexo inks, used

both alone and on combination narrow web presses with Sericol’s screen inks

and for cd and dvd printing applications.

Assisted with the integration of a purchased ink company.

Developed successful litho, letterpress, and f lexo inks, and fully commercialized these

Inks.

Assisted with ISO certification

Responsible for providing full customer technical support.

Borden Chemical Group 1993 -1997

Group Leader, Pigmented UV I n k Group

Responsible for the formulation of UV curable inks, with a particular emphasis on inks

used on r igid plastics.

Responsible for a staff of seven chemists

Responsible for customer technical support. I spent approximately 50% of my t ime

t raveling to customer sites.

Canadian Bank Note Co. Ltd 1985 - 1993

Senior Scientist/Di rector of I n k manufactu ring

Developed high security systems and inks for a currency and other high value document

printer. I init ially worked in R&D, and then was made director of a captive ink

manufacturing facility, with a staff of 42 production and technical workers. We produced

approximately 12 mill ion pounds annually of oil based intaglio, l ithographic and

letterpress security inks.

Assisted in starting up several new ventures, including two lottery printing plants.

I worked as a special liaison to the Bank of Canada for seven years assisting in the

development of an optically variable anti-counterfeiting security device for Canadian

currency.

I mplemented “Right to Know” legislation.

Research and Quality Control Manager

I managed the technical laboratories with a staff of 10 people. We were responsible for oil based

l ithographic ink development and production quality control.

Customer support, t roubleshooting, new product development, including

varnishes, and sheet fed and heat set inks.

I was the company representative to the CPIMA (Canadian Printing Ink Manufacturers

Association) and the I ITA (International Ink technical Group)
