PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Oct 2008 – Mar 2010: Pete Davis is currently an XIV Storage Technical Advisor. This

position within IBM is much like an activist for the client managing installations,

upgrades and situations (and expectations). Working very close with the clients, the job is

to follow ‘change / problem / crisis management’ for the benefit of the customer. Prior to

that position, he was a part of the e1350 Linux Cluster Implementation Team, taking

customer requirements for estimating, software and hardware (Linux, xCAT,

BladeCenter, DSx000, and GPFS), installing and customer training. After spending the

previous 12 years in “instructor” mode, he decided to go back to the real world

environment in order to put his training experience into practice.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Jan 1997 – Sept 2008: Pete was a Senior Education Specialist with IBM IT Education

Services for 12 years as an instructor and a course developer across the AIX, GRID and

Linux curricula. Some of the courses required Linux certification such as RHCE and LPI

– Pete was the first IBM instructor to attain RHCE and was granted the ability to train

other instructors to teach the certification courses as well as certifying students in

becoming RHCEs. He was the US team lead for multiple system administration and

programming courses for the Linux curriculum, assisting in the development of many

other courses, including AIX System Admin, GRID Computing and LPI Certification

courses. As a team leader, he was responsible for certification of other instructors with

TTT sessions and coaching when necessary. Pete has also been very involved in IBM’s

(US and Global) Technical University conferences (RS6000 / POWER) since the first one

in 1999 – not only instructing multiple sessions, but aiding in the technical support for the

conference hands on labs and helping the agenda managers with the Linux sessions and

speakers.

Aug 1989 -- March 1995: Prior to joining IBM, Pete worked as an instructor and support

Person for an AQC consulting business training people in TQM and 6-Sigma. When he

wasn't supporting customers in methodology of "quality" he was training customers in a

classroom situation on 6-Sigma and Designs of Experimentation. He also was an aide in

the TTT classes and he created the software testing system for new software releases.

This led to a position in 1996 with a client company as Quality Coordinator.

Unfortunately, that position was eliminated within the year.

Sept 1982 – Jan 1989: Pete worked as an instructor and consultant before being asked to

become an Area Manager with Tandy Corporation’s Radio Shack Business Product

Services. Based in Columbus, OH, he managed three ‘Area Training and Support

Offices’ covering Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee ranging from 7 to 20+ highly technical

employees and was awarded one of only four Tandy Corporation “All Star” Awards. The

employees performed installation, phone support, training and software customization for

business customers. As manager, duties included staffing, mentoring, performance

management and team building (among other things like customer sat, sales and

profitability). After Tandy left the “business computer” business, he joined an

accounting software company as “trainer”

These jobs came after he had spent over 20 years in the retail industry, 10 in

management. His first job lasted 5 summers at a Dairy Queen (age 14) then a gas station,

clothing store and discount store (like a Target). He was a unit manager for two "major

chain" stores in the home improvement industry, successfully increasing each one's

business over 100% within a year. After that, Pete was named manager of a major self-

serve shoe store and then promoted into the home offices in the buying and

merchandising group, where he was the un-official “trainer of new employees” when

they joined our group. From there, he was moved to a systems analyst position to

rework/recreate a warehouse/distribution center from "manual" to "computer" systems.

That company eventually closed but he continued on with a career in computers and

training.

PROFESSIONAL FUTURE

After spending the past year or so in the "computer room," Pete realizes that he needs to

get back to the education and training arena. He doesn't mind the long hours as long as

the enjoyment continues and the environment is supportive. Pete is very comfortable

speaking with individuals at any level and in front of groups. He is available July 1, is

willing to travel (DELTA Million Miler) and has a DOD “secret” clearance.
