Laser Applications Engineer

Primarily responsible for investigating the mechanism of laser-

material interactions and conducting feasibility study on laser

material processing; analyzing experimental and applied data for

determining and documenting laser process parameters; and

designing and developing advanced laser micromachining processes

for various applications, including medical instrumentation,

electronics, semiconductor, and telecommunications.

08/2003- 08/2006 College of Optics & Photonics, University of Central

Florida Orlando, FL

Graduate Research Assistant

Research on "Annular Beam Shaping and Optical Trepanning",

supported by Laser Fare Inc, under a SBIR Phase II project on

laser drilling. Duties include:

. Designed an annular shaping optics system to transfer a circular beam

into an annular beam by using the ray tracing technique.

. Calculated diffraction fields for an optical trepanning system based

on the scalar diffraction theory.

. Developed mathematical models to investigate temperature

distributions, drilling speed, thickness of recast layer and hole

taper during optical trepanning.

. Optimized process parameters for optical trepanning.

2000-2003 Institute of Laser Machining & Molding Technology,

Jiangsu University Jiangsu, China

Research Scientist and Lecturer

. Contributed to the project "Quantitative Measurement of Interface

Adhesive Strength of Composites by Laser spallation Technique",

supported by National Science Foundation of China (No.29975044).

Duties include:

o Simulated the stress wave propagation induced by the pulsed

laser.

o Detected the acoustics signal on the composite interface using

an interferometer SH120.

. Contributed to the project "Improving Performance of an Engine Crank

by the Laser Shock Processing (LSP)", supported by Applied Science

Foundation of Jiangsu Province. Duties include:

o Developed mathematical models to derivate the peak shock

pressure and compressive residue stress due to laser shock

processing.

o Programmed the neutral network code for optimizing experiment

parameters.

. Taught " Nontraditional Machining Technique" and " General principles

of Mech-Electronic Engineering" courses to undergraduate students
