Overview
I am an exceptionally-experienced Perl programmer and talented leader of
development teams, with exceptional skills in various disciplines. My
experience ranges from operating as a one-man web shop to my current role,
in which I manage 8 employees. Having led my most recent development team
through a major transition, I am ready for my next challenge.
Work History
Informatics Corporation of America Director of Development / Product
Manager
Nashville, TN Jan 2008-Present
ICA produces an HIE (Health Information Exchange) product called
CareAlignTM Suite. I manage the team that produces this application. I
directly supervise a 5-person development team, a business analyst, a web
designer, and a 3-person QA team.
In two and a half years at ICA, I have completely turned around the
Development Group, bringing that organization "from worst to first". We
inherited a very old fashioned Perl CGI application with no separation of
code. I led the process of bringing that application into the 21st century
and we now have an application to be proud of. It's fully MVC'd, using
Mason, Rose::DB::Object and MooTools.
In addition to the massive improvement in the code itself, I have lead the
team through an extensive reorganization. Through effective turnover and
recruiting, extensive overhauls to processes, and lots and lots of
documentation, this team is ready to go and has now become the group for
the entire company to emulate.
CBT Nuggets Senior Developer / Architect
Eugene, OR Sep 2003-Dec 2007
CBT Nuggets is a producer of IT certification training videos, which they
sell primarily on a website that I created in Perl. The customer side and
an extensive administrative interface for the sales team and order
processing staff, as well as reporting tools for management. In additional
to normal e-commerce functionality, this company (like a lot of others) has
a lot of unique requirements that required various custom solutions.
As of May 2010, over 8 years after the site was originally developed, and
over 2.5 years since I left the company, CBT Nuggets continues to operate
entirely on the site that I developed for them.
Self-Employed Web Developer
Woodstock, GA Sep 1999-Sep 2003
Freelance development for a few different customers, including one customer
that became my next employer. I worked mainly from home, and almost
exclusively with Perl and PostgreSQL.
IBM Global Services Solutions Architect
Marietta, GA Sep 1999-Oct 2002
Working in the Atlanta Center for E-Business Innovations, I led technical
teams of various sizes during development of very high profile, high volume
web sites, usually specializing in e-commerce functionality. At the project
level, I reported to the Producer, who works directly with the creative
team and the customer. I was involved in the full life cycle of the
project, from early estimates and contract drafting, to requirements
gathering and detailed design, to development and QA testing, to deployment
and transition to maintenance.
Synergistics, Inc Senior Developer
Alpharetta, GA Sep 1997-Sep 1999
I developed Lotus Notes/Domino applications and advised the product
development team on web-related issues at this Notes Consulting firm. I was
one of two developers certified by IBM in their Net.Commerce product. I
also served as the Network Administrator, setting up a complete Linux-based
firewall and handling networking-related issues.
