Professional Synopsis
Vice President-Software Engineering
CA Technologies / formerly Computer Associates Inc. (Tampa/Sarasota, FL;
Princeton, NJ & Islandia NY)
Select Achievements:
. Played a key role in positioning a business unit to first place within
its market, strengthening the company's competitive position, through
effective strategic planning and product development leadership.
< Delivered on initial strategic goal of eliminating competitive erosion
that equated to millions of dollars of lost revenue and market share
within the Workload Automation area.
< Established an exceptional competitive advantage by creating the first
'enterprise view'-capable product in the market space (where two
development teams had failed) as well as devising a shortened release
cycle strategy with product evaluations that transformed the product
from a stopgap measure to the flagship (product) web-user interface
for a $350M business unit.
< Overcame key challenges of merging six user interfaces and disparate
server-side products into a single
fluid presentation layer, while coordinating two peer Workload
Automation development teams in a highly collaborative environment.
. Led the development for one of the company's top products in new product
sales/revenue generation for two years-with customers that included
Fortune 100 companies who utilized the product for mission-critical
applications.
< Recruited internally to turn around a failing product developed by a
subsidiary. Effectively instituted the corporate tactical and
strategic plan, which included team reorganization to drive
productivity. Motivated the development team to resolve 400 high-
severity customer support issues in 60 days.
< Significantly reduced costs by transitioning to in-house resources as
opposed to (heavy) external consultant use.
. Re-released and revitalized the XCOM multi-platform data transport
product (still sold and maintains a large client base) after working with
clients to identify needs/requirements and incorporating necessary
changes to the product.
. Improved customer relationships and obtained references by involving
customers in the software development process, treating them as
development partners. Partnered with ASP and SaaS vendors to position
the product to support Web-Oriented Architecture (WOA) and SOA
initiatives.
. Converted the North American and Western European teams to a 'work-from-
home'/virtual environment; modified SDLC management procedures to ensure
the team remained productive-to date, two successful release cycles have
been completed within the virtual environment.

Key Responsibilities & Additional Accomplishments:
. Directed development and product integration for the Workload Automation
($350M) business unit, which provides web-based monitoring, management,
and control of enterprise workloads at the Workload Control Center (WCC).
Oversaw a $3-3.5M annual budget along with direct and indirect teams,
ranging from 35 to 62, composed of senior directors, directors,
development managers, principal architects, architects, principal
software engineers, senior software engineers, software engineers, and
associate software engineers.
. Evaluated products, technologies, and organizations for acquisition,
integration, and partnership. Technologies included Critical Path
Monitoring, Workflow, Grid, Dynamic Resource Management (Virtualization),
Workload Automation, Enterprise Management, and SaaS.
. Lead the recruitment, training, and management of development teams that
are geographically dispersed over North America, Western Europe, Eastern
Europe and Asia, to assure the success of the business unit's corporate
objectives.
. Applied a modified Agile software development methodology to shorten
release cycles and improve product quality. Cut development costs and
accelerated product delivery by utilizing a development strategy that
combined open source components, internally developed common components,
third-party tools, and in-house development.
. Tasked with turning around an underperforming program, a data mining and
presentation product for legacy applications that was originally
developed by a CA subsidiary. Led a 20-member development team (located
across the US) to fix major quality issues and lack of development focus
and move the Opal product forward within a span of two to three years.
. Managed a difficult merger phase that included replacing departing staff
members with limited resources; worked with the team to successfully
integrate a subsidiary's culture with CA's corporate culture.
. Integrated acquired web-to-host products into the company's product line;
reduced development costs without affecting product quality by
implementing a cross-training strategy on the different product
technologies; and focused on fixing product quality issues and
positioning the product within markets where it would 'add value.'
