TECHNICAL ANALYST (Web Technologies) ( Feb '10 - Current )
Srijan Technologies
Project : Reviewagent (Web Product)
Reviewagent is a PHP based engine, where-in it delivers data users to the
users on the fly, communicating with a Hadoop based recommender system,
Apache Mahout.
Technologies used
Language : PHP, Python, Java
Database : MySQL, NoSQL, MongoDB
Work Platform : Unix
Key Learnings
Being a web application, a benchmark was set for 10,000 + page views a day,
which brought in Scalability proficiency, and the usage of a (K,V) based
database, MongoDB.
Multithreading was used extensively, to enhance performance.
PHP was integrated with Java, which was quite challenging.
Project : Infrastructure Management (Ubuntu)
Migration of sites from one server to another.
Implementation of intelligent algorithms to improve site performance.
Maintain scheduled backups at various servers.
PIPELINE PROGRAMMER
Rhythm and Hues Studios (July '09 - January '10)
Key Roles
At Rhythm & Hues India, I worked with the CG Production Pipeline group to
architect and develop tools and supporting modules for the visual effects
production, in a scripting language environment. Projects include studio-
wide and production-specific tool development, as well as continued
development of the core pipeline support modules and sub-systems.
I implemented process improvements, new features, and fixed bugs using Perl
for the proprietary digital production pipeline, used by over a thousand
TDs (Technical Director) on a daily basis for multiple productions at
multiple locations Los Angeles, Mumbai, Hyderabad and KL.
I did a lot of troubleshooting, profiling and documentation of code,
debugging and develop new tools to optimize the work flow in the studio and
automate the time consuming non-creative work.
Apart from that, I have to inform and educate the TDs about any changes in
the workflow, new tools and technologies.
Skills Developed
Excellent UNIX skills.
Solid understanding of software design methodologies
Object-oriented software design skills.
Excellent documentation skills.
MySQL integration with Perl.
NetScout Systems INTERNSHIP (Jan '09 - June'09)
JAVA DEVELOPER
Key Roles
Performance Manager is a proprietary product which is responsible for the
analysis of the various kinds of data that flows through a network
(implemented for large organizations). This data is stored into a database,
which is also proprietary.
My work focused on the database, where I had to develop a tool in Java,
which was responsible for bombarding data onto the database. TCP
communication was preferred in this new model (old tool was developed over
SNMP communication). It was a Multithreaded application developed using
Sockets, Channels, NIO and Streams.
It was based on the Observable and the Prototype Design Pattern.
This was achieved well in time, and the speed of data transfer was very
much above the expectations, and it was well appreciated.
Skills developed
Excellent understanding of the OOPs, Design Patterns.
Deep understanding of Multithreading and the NIO and its core values.
Integrating Multithreading with TCP Sockets lead to dynamic thinking.
Challenges faced
1) Numerous race conditions
2) Efficient memory utilization
