SUMMARY
Action/results-oriented Mechanical Engineer with extensive hands-on,
design, analysis, and troubleshooting experience. Demonstrated
capabilities in Computer Aided Engineering/Design (CAE/CAD), Finite
Element Analysis (FEA), materials management, planning, supplier-managed
purchasing, inventory control, E-commerce, system component assembly and
production/process improvements for a Fortune-500 firm using the Oracle
Business Enterprise System (EBS) during Proposal efforts in Defense-
contract execution and other cost-reduction initiatives.
OBJECTIVE
Utilize and further expand Mechanical-Product-Development and System-
component-integration capabilities with the opportunity for a leadership
role in the Bio-Medical or Green Energy markets.
EXPERIENCE
DRS-DS/CONSOLIDATED CONTROLS - Danbury, CT.
2008-2010
MECHANICAL ANALYTICAL/PROJECT ENGINEER
Several projects in cost reduction, failure resolution and prevention
using CAD models, documentation & procedures
* Applied 1-D, 2-D, & 3-D Finite Element connections using Unigraphics NX-
6.0 including rigid element coupling techniques, to a design-generated
CAD model of electronic equipment housings, and subsequently configured
corresponding boundary conditions and gravity loads for results-based
material/geometry decisions - Results: Chose to use 1/8" thick sheet High-
Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) steel instead of " sheet stock and met
deadlines
* Performed complex drawing reviews of multiple layer machine drawings
with more than 25 sheets with regard to form, fit and function and Bill-
of-Materials (BOM) comparisons to prevent mechanical design- based fit-up
complications - Results: resolved several misalignments that could have
easily cost the company several thousands of dollars in manufacturing
mistakes and scrap material, and corrected part listings in the BOM.
* Created 3D CAD models to graphically display a proof-of-concept
manufacturing change as an additional innovative assist to a Feasibility,
Bid & Proposal effort all while maintaining consideration for several
MILITARY- specific design specifications- Results: 25% reduction in
manufacturing cost, and successful customer-oriented demonstration-
presentation of mechanical feasibility
* Performed manufacturing-change cost-analysis of Dip-Brazing vs. CNC-
machining, by managing and monitoring suppliers' input, and subsequently
manufacturing companies to compare costs, processing, modeling, proof of
concept and variation, technology refresh in addition to scale analysis,
& obsolete material/parts replacement
* Several Laboratory projects including a hands-on cabling and harnessing
assembly project, a Clean-room manufacturing documentation effort-
Results: documented process-sheets on how to prevent future failure in
several areas of the DRS proprietary Display filling procedure using
Sylgard 184, and assisted Test department achieve delivery closer to
deadline.
* Resolved misalignments of Gaskets and Hardware by evaluating Geometric
Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
* Performed rivet material-failure investigation of cracking with regard
to manufacturing process, Lot-variation, tooling and geometry - Results:
specific tooling fixture, explicit MIL-Spec call-out with specific LOT.
* Performed a chemical combustion computation evaluation with regard to
OSHA requirements, Maximum Allowable dosage (MAD) limits, assembled
Degradation of Specification Requirements, while performing ECOs and
alterations to ORACLE inventory EBS affected products, ultimately being
submitted to NAV-SEA for review. No subsequent discussions of risk after
risk matrix was reported and documented - Results: prevented $100K in
rework labor and material costs, in addition to ECO and internal
associated costs in administration time.
* Used TIPQA to discover, and issue corrective action/resolution efforts
while evaluating Supplier Variance Requests in material to switch from
HSLA to Commercial Grade Steel for high impact brackets
* Determined a substitute military grade paint replacement for an
obsolete paint due to VOC numbers - Results: Paint- test part came back
and failed digital light-emission readings and conducted further search
for whiter paints successfully finding higher emissivity than the
previous paint called out on the drawing.
