Sapient Corp., Senior Program Manager 2004 2008

2004-2008

Sr. Project Manager with a client facing role managing customer relationship, project strategy, scope, budget, resources,

plans, technologies, and implementation.

• Restructured a struggling Web technology implementation for News Corp-UK. Aligned customer expectation with

India team and provided a workable & effective communication bridge among team members located in India, and

UK. Established communication with customers, motivated the team, established effective quality measurement

processes and delivered executive status leading to satisfied customer. Used JAVA, JavaScript, XML, FAST, backend

integration, and AGILE project methods. Recognized as an effective people’s manager. This project delivered two

newspaper/e-commerce websites for retail businesses; Project was 6-8 months long involving 20-25 people with

$1.8MM revenues.

• Led a software team implementing renewable energy applications for Nevada Power Company. The project involved

defining, designing, developing and implementing new integrated renewable energy website to track renewable

energy credits approval and transfers. Because of this application, credits were processed in a timely manner

eliminating delays and inaccuracies in billing processes. Project was six months long with offshore team of eight.

Used .Net, ASP.Net, Oracle, etc.

• Managed a team of 40 members in India and USA to reduce software defect identification and correction response

time for a telecommunication giant Sprint, by implementing 24x7 process and resolution bridge. The project reduced

defect resolution time by 50%.

• Consulted with Energy Company, SouthStar to meet their Sarbanes Oxley requirements. Evaluated existing

processes/systems, developed a detailed strategy, evaluated ETRM software options (Allegro), and then

recommended Allegro ETRM solution. The solution was approved for ~$5M project. Personally managed new

processes and detailed requirement writing for Contracts, Credits, Counterparties and Billing tracks. Replaced

primitive spreadsheet based billing process with a robust system thus achieving substantial operational accuracy and

savings. This project integrated ETRM with PeopleSoft & Siebel platforms to achieve the project goals. The project

was year long and a large team in India and USA. Used .Net based software package.

• Managed a project for an energy holding company, AGLR to support M&A activity of their six subsidiaries.

Standardized billing business processes and consolidated various “ stand alone” billing systems resulting in 30%

operational savings. Integrated with PeopleSoft to consolidate billing.

• Consulted automotive company (GM) to define 24 IT processes; responsible for all IT services “Request-to-Pay”

process that supported international customers and $4B IT purchases. Defined detailed process design and gathered

requirements. Evaluated technologies and designed a strategy to implement with SAP purchasing module.

eXcelon Corporation, Practice Manager 2000-2003

This is consulting practice manager customer delivery role supporting sales team, delivery team. Also, supported internal

product development and methodologies.

• Supported a sales team developing enterprise value model, quantifying business benefits and value proposition

including revenue enhancement, Cost of Goods Sold, decrease in capital expenditure and time-to-market. Reinforced

client-value recognition, promoted partnership and rationalized investment decisions .

• Authored and implemented Software Evaluation Methodology for any off-the-shelf packages. It streamlined the

selection process leading to substantial upfront procurement cost reduction

• Managed “Inventory Excelerator” application. Defined scope, value proposition, marketing material and releases. This

provided real-time view of inventory, helped reduce cost and increase sales. Used BEA WebLogic & Java, XML

Technology.

Lucent Technologies, Software Technical Manager 1995-2000

As a part of Lucent CIO organization, managed IT department (20) for fiber/cable manufacturing which included

infrastructure, application, DBA, and System Administration groups. Managed strategy, planning, business alignment,

hiring, training, reviews, salary, budget, etc.

• Led software development department of 17 engineers with portfolio of mission critical manufacturing applications:

ERP, manufacturing execution (MES), BI, and inventory management. Developed partnership with Georgia Tech

University to develop fiber selection optimization models resulting in a 10% lower finished goods inventory and 20%

lower scrap. Integrated these applications with SAP.

• Directed a team of 40 engineers to migrate critical legacy systems to a modern client-server platform, which resulted

in a performance improvement by factor of 250. It also provided robust and maintenance friendly platform to be able

to support multi-million $ business expansion. This effort was completed in the most cost-effective manner without

adding any additional resources.

• Defined and implemented the Intranet architecture, Help Desk, Local Area Network and Network Management

platform to improve problem resolution response time by 25% while reducing work force requirements by 30%

ensuring high quality 24x7 services.

AT&T, Bell Laboratories, Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) 1985-1995

As a part of Bell Labs CIO organization, started as programmer in UNIX, managed small projects, IT processes, and

external consulting.

• Lead a team of 17 Norwegian Bank engineers in Norway to evaluate and implement bank’s branch architecture (~200

branches) based on NT server and HP PCs. Developed a business case, presented alternatives and obtained project

implementation approval. Evaluated off-the-shelf financial software application packages that reduced the

maintenance costs by 20% eliminated Y2K risks & reduced response time for new products by 50%.

• Reengineered Bell Labs’ IT division (1200 people, 7 locations). Designed 14 formal IT processes, roles,

responsibilities, and metrics. Ensured customer-focus, cost-effectiveness and employee empowerment.

• Led multi-location, technology-evaluation team to design TCP/IP Network Management. Designed management

architecture using HP OpenView resulting in a cost reduction and improved Quality of Service. Enhanced networking

application, to support Internet Protocol on many hardware platforms like AMDAHL, SUN and NCR.
