Role: Senior DBA

ActiveHealth Management, a wholly owner subsidiary of Aetna Inc., is a

leading provider of health management services, including disease

management, clinical decision support and personal health records. The

project involves enhancements, maintenance and production support of their

Data Warehouse database.

. Work on all aspects of their data warehouse database running on 4 node

Linux RAC.

. Provide oncall support to all the Oracle databases and applications.

. Colloborate with the development team in understanding the Informatica

transformations and worked on performance tuning the same.

. Perform application performance tuning like setting up for parallelism

where ever possible, parallel DML and evaluating right index

strategies, bitmap indexes etc.

. Discussed with development team, the advantages of Analytic SQL and

implemented the same extensively in their reporting modules.

. Involved in setup of snapshot replication for a couple of modules and

maintain our replication environment.

Amazon.com, a Fortune 500 company based in Seattle, Washington, is the

global leader in e-commerce. Project involves creating, maintaining and

monitoring every aspect of their retail and forecast system databases.

There are at least 50 production databases most of which are OLTP and a few

DSS systems all running on RedHat Linux.

. Work involved maintaining, monitoring and performance tuning of large

scale massively concurrent OLTP databases. The databases were

primarily running on 10g with a few databases upgraded to 11g.

. Ability to quickly respond to and act on complex database scenarios.

. Worked with development teams in design and development of new

modules, worked with Erwin to maintain data models, work with change

management tools etc.

. Coded extensions to our generic partition maintenance program in

pl/sql to handle multi column partition keys, subpartitions, data

segment compression etc.

. Implemented streams replication to replicate data from procurement

module to the data warehouse. Setup change data capture, setup rules

and made transformations and applied to the data warehouse database.

Worked on automating the administration and monitoring of the same.

. Developed and maintained scripts and standards for our group of

approximately 50 production databases.

. Configuring databases for high availability and massive horizontal

scaling. The architecture enables us to build and seamlessly deploy

new databases and perform migrations with quick turnaround time and

minimal down time. We have setup DataGuard and MultiMaster Replication

for different databases based on the requirements of the applications.

. Worked on 4 node Linux RAC with ASM for our pricing database. Worked

configuration, setting up monitoring scripts, RMAN backups,

troubleshooting and performance tuning.

. Worked on setting up connection time load balancing and transparent

application failover. Setup services for instance affinity and manage

load on the database instances.

. Worked on troubleshooting issues with interconnect, monitoring

performance bottlenecks, RAC wait events etc.
