Experience:
Harlem Today, Publisher 2006-2009
Print and manage a quarterly news-magazine focusing on issues pertaining to the social- political
scene of New York, NY. The publications mission is to develop business and political
awareness of opportunities in the city, thus ensuring increased economic participation and
social mobility for the local population.
The Harlem Times, Publisher 2001-2006
Created and developed a weekly community newspaper with a circulation of 20 - 50,000
throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The papers primary focus was to enrich the
lives of those living in the inner city through discussion of issues relating to health,
business, real-estate development, religion, finance and travel. In addition, the paper
worked in partnership with real-estate developers, churches and community groups to
promote revitalization efforts in New York.
Ministerial Interfaith Association, Director of Communications 2000 - 2001
Developed a data-driven voter awareness program to assist local organizations in political
awareness campaigns. Set up strategies to organize voter registration drives which resulted
in an additional 100,000 New Yorkers being added to the voting rolls.
Overseas Business
Experience:
International Commerce Exchange systems (ICES), New Business
Developer, New York/Oslo 1997-1998
Worked as an overseas “New business developer” for ICES, a firm operating within the
World Trade Organization (WTO). The primary mission of ICES was to promote global
exchange for small and mid-sized businesses over the Internet. My chief responsibilities
lay in developing client relations with businesses in Eastern and Northern Europe.
UMP, Accounts Manager, Creative Director, Warsaw, Poland 1995-97
New business development specialist and accounts manager. My direct contributions led to
over three million dollars in new business. Personally responsible for clients PUMA
athletic wear, Pepsico, and Johnny Walker Whisky.
International Monetary Fund Media Project (IMF), Warsaw, Poland 1992-95
Served in Poland as a media specialist for Rutgers University and the IMF. My chief
responsibilities lay in training Central European journalists in the English language, in
addition to consulting and editing both written and spoken news communications for local
news outlets. This included launching an on-air radio program broadcast in a four million
plus media market, as well as starting an American-style marketing and promotions
consulting agency. My duties further led me to positions as stand –in English Editor and
Copy Writer for the The Warsaw Voice, as well a Director of Marketing for The Estates
News.
