PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Cambridge Major Labs
(July 2004 - Dec 2009)
Director of Engineering
Cambridge Major Laboratories is a leading global chemistry outsourcing
partner to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries providing
process R&D, scale up, and GMP manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical
Ingredients.
. Facility Overview: Planned and directed all aspects of the engineering
activities for three pharmaceutical plants. Two plants located in the
United States and one in Belgium which range in size from 50 to 2000 gal
reactors.
. Engineering Leadership: Led and directed all engineering activities for
a group of three engineers and five maintenance technicians. Assigned
engineering resources to projects or production issues. Led or supported
concept, approval and execution of projects by the engineering group.
. Plant Construction and Startup: Accountable for startup of new $40
million plant. Drove all aspects of building construction and design
pharmaceutical process equipment, HVAC, fire protection, electrical and
PLC requirements. Achieved successful output of GMP products in 18
months.
. Process Equipment Startup and Maintenance: Delivered on equipment and
process availability to ensure operations were not interrupted and
successful manufacturing of quality product on time. Designed, approved,
and installed pharmaceutical process equipment to allow for growing needs
for capacity as well as provided predictive and preventative maintenance
to support continuous production.
. GMP Certified: Assured all policies and procedures met specifications for
compliance with appropriate codes, regulations and standards according to
the FDA for all three plants also including certifying process equipment
which was a requirement in order to bid on customer's manufacturing
needs.
. Key Equipment Design and Installation: Responsible for design,
installation and maintenance for equipment such as glass lined reactors,
cryogenic reactors, hydrogenator, vacuum system, ventilation system,
scrubbers, tank farm and chillers as well as designed and implemented a
pollution control system using thermo-oxidizer technology.
Furey Filter & Pump
(Dec 2001 - July 2004)
Senior Design Engineer
Furey Filter & Pump, Inc. has been providing fluid handling and filtration
solutions since 1956. Integrating a variety of products into the optimum
fluid handling system can be a complicated process.
. Application Engineering: Supported the sales team in providing customer
pricing and specifications. Designed custom large and small scale
pumping systems for power, paper, chemical and food and beverage
industries. Defined standardization to use on systems to make the best
use of technology and ensure cost effective solutions for customer.
Created P&ID diagrams and I&E diagrams with AutoCAD.
. Project Management: Managed all aspects of project after sales to
delivery which included gathering customer requirements, obtaining
approvals, coordinating with suppliers and internal groups to deliver
high quality system according the customer's timeline and budget.
. Engineering Strategy: Responsible for engineering group and implemented
key improvements to products, design process and manufacturing by
utilizing technology to create state-of-the-art systems. Coached
engineers and represented engineering in new product development.
