Advanced Engineering Group, Senior Software Engineer
In this position, I support the design and development of a software
platform for the next generation of infotainment products. I am also
responsible for the design, implementation and testing of software for
products outside of the company's mainstream product line, including XM
receivers and DSP amplifiers.
Selected Achievements:
. Developed prototype software and reference designs to demonstrate the use
and characteristics of XM data services.
. Provided image processing techniques to improve the appearance of low
cost display solutions.
. "Reverse-engineered" an un-documented Renesas DSP system to enable off-
loading audio sample rate conversion from the main processor.
Stradis, Inc 2005 -

Senior DSP Engineer
Development and optimization of MPEG video decoders for television
broadcast industry video servers. These efforts included evaluation and
integration of MPEG video decoding algorithms on various DSP processors,
including a multi-processor SOIC (TI Davinci) platform. Developed and
tested post-processing algorithms for image scaling and de-interleaving
using Matlab simulations.
Selected Achievements:
. Developed prototype MPEG2 decoder systems based on various TI DSP
platforms to evaluate suitability for HD solutions.
. Provided low-cost post-processing algorithm alternatives for scaling and
de-interleaving.

Software Engineering Group Senior Software Engineer
Developed and maintained the software for several audio products, including
control applications for the first Sirius satellite receiver, and a family
of DSP based digital amplifiers. The development efforts spanned all
phases of the software life cycle including product definition, software
development, testing, development of PC based support tools, and final
release to mass production. Developed complete software solutions for
numerous digital amplifiers. These solutions included microprocessor
firmware and PC-based calibration utilities. These calibration tools
allowed audio system engineers to rapidly fine-tune audio characteristics
in-vehicle. By providing highly reliable products that were customized for
each client vehicle model, the sales volume of the amplifiers I developed
grew to over $100 million between 2004 and 2009.
Selected Achievements:
. Sole software developer for MECA's first Sirius satellite receiver.
. Maintained 100% on-time, and 100% trouble-free software delivery for
three original product lines.
Motorola Labs 1993 -
2000
Speech Technology Group Staff Engineer
Developed prototype software and hardware to enable evaluation of human
interface concepts such as touch-screens, and voice recognition based
assistance for human operators.
Developed and executed test methods to support voice recognition research.
Developed methods and numerical algorithms for a very low data rate speech
compression system. I was responsible for the implementation and testing
of the decoder portion of the speech codec. Developed algorithms using
Matlab, and converted them to "C" for more efficient testing and
implementation on target platforms.
Selected Achievements:
. Provided assistance to product teams implementing the speech compression
algorithms.
. Provided fixed-point calculation results as test vectors for DSP
implementations.

Performed safety evaluations for hazardous waste disposal, nuclear fuel
manufacturing, and nuclear reprocessing facilities using probabilistic risk
analysis methods (CAFTA). This included analysis of systems to evaluate
reliability and safety of design, as well as the calculation of the
consequences of releases of chemical and radiological materials. Developed
safety evaluation reports for fuel reprocessing facilities.
Selected Achievements:
. Developed methodology to generate simultaneous failure probabilities from
historical failure rate data.
. Trained co-workers on numerical procedures for probabilistic failure
calculations.
