Re: Legal Benefits Director
Dear Sir/Madam:
I respectfully submit my r sum for consideration and would be
pleased to speak with interested parties regarding my candidacy.
In a nutshell, I am a well rounded attorney with extensive experience
in the employee benefits and managed care industries. More specifically, I
served approximately eight years as Senior Attorney for First Health Group
Corp. First Health (now Coventry Health Care) is a prominent health
benefits company offering national TPA, managed care, and provider networks
services. I managed the Salt Lake City legal department for approximately
six years. On a daily basis, I worked arm in arm with, for example,
medical directors, human resource managers, clinical case managers, claims
personnel, excess loss insurance managers, account managers and other
colleagues. I have a good understanding of various health care delivery
systems and I am particularly familiar with preferred provider
organizations. I have in-depth experience with ERISA and numerous other
state and federal employee benefits statutes. Because I operated within a
highly complex regulatory framework, I developed disciplined compliance and
contracting practices. At any given time I managed and was ultimately
responsible for approximately 200 litigation and "pre-litigation" matters
(e.g., provider disputes). My career with First Health routinely required
that I efficiently coordinate across departmental boundaries. Notably, I
also played a lead role in supporting First Health's captive excess loss
insurance carrier.
In the wake of First Health's acquisition by Coventry Health Care, my
legal department office was closed and I accepted employment as a Senior
Associate in the Civil Litigation, Health Law and Corporate Law divisions
of a distinguished Utah law firm. My case load included complex benefit
claims, multi-party litigation, general corporate counseling, ERISA law,
insurance law, intellectual property and other matters.
In January of 2008, I was recruited by a large Utah corporation,
Security National Financial Corporation, to spearhead development and
regulatory approval of a new accident insurance product for outdoor
enthusiasts.[1] I also serve as the sole contract negotiator and
administrator. Unfortunately the Great Recession essentially cut off the
budget for my product and I find myself, like millions of other Americans,
scrambling to find more promising employment. My salary expectations are
flexible in the appropriate circumstances.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully,
