MITRE is a not-for-profit organization that operates federally funded R&D
centers for the U.S. government. As a senior manager in the Corporate
Communications Division, I designed, developed, and implemented strategies
to enhance understanding of the company's role and mission. Key
accomplishments included:
. Oversaw $500K budget and staff of five distributed senior
communications specialists and graphic designers.
. Built strategic, proactive media relations program for the corporation
that reduced direct costs by 50 percent while generating a 100 percent
increase in news volume
. Championed and supported the development of a social media strategy
for MITRE. Managed MITRE groups on Facebook and Linkedin
. Introduced a corporate citizenship strategy to the company. Created an
interactive SharePoint collection for employee volunteering on the
corporate intranet
. Chaired Annual $250K Workplace Giving Campaign
. Led corporate branding initiative. Worked with officer team to develop
brand architecture, message maps, logo guidelines, and visual identity
standards for the corporation
. Managed the production of the Comprehensive Review of the C3I FFRDC,
the key communications vehicle for renewal of MITRE's $750 million
contract with the DoD
. Managed the employee news function for the corporation, including
oversight of MITRE Matters, a monthly print magazine, and the News
Center, a daily news service on the intranet.
. Developed comprehensive communications plan to introduce employees to
the company's newly created Strategic Framework
. Served as Editor-in-Chief of the company's 50th anniversary
activities. Oversaw the creation of a commemorative hard cover book
showcasing the company's evolution and history of service in the
public interest, an anniversary video, and a variety of corporate
collateral materials

Volpe is a federal, fee-for-service organization that is part of the U.S.
Department of Transportation. As the senior member of the communications
