Registered Professional Engineer - State of Missouri
Professional Experience
Project Engineer Contract Consultant 2002-2009
Quality Resources Inc., Lake St. Louis, Mo (at MECS, Chesterfield, MO)
Coordinated the testing program used to develop data to be used to scale-up
for the process to ferment and distill ethanol from a biomass feedstock for
use as a gasoline additive. Created new, or modified existing
specifications to be used to scale-up key process equipment. Coordinated
the project team to complete and issue the process design package to the
client and the detailed engineering firm. Wrote and assembled the scale-up
and testing reports with inputs and review from the various team members.
E-Search, LLC, St. Louis, MO (at ConocoPhillips, Roxana, IL.)
Led project design for firewater and other manufacturing support projects.
Worked with the refinery safety team to develop a long term firewater
upgrade plan. Oversaw the development of long term plans/projects for
eliminating piping dead legs and railcar/tank truck safety egress.
Hansen Engineering Group, St, Louis, MO (at Astaris, LLC, St. Louis, MO)
Specified mechanical equipment, parts and material and oversaw mechanical
design for new/updated facilities. Managed field construction activities
for a new acid heating system and a new acid unloading station. Completed
checkout and successfully started-up both projects.
Adecco Technical, St. Louis, MO (at Nestle, USA, St. Louis, MO)
Designed and modeled facilities arrangements and detailed parts for capital
projects.
MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. 1987-2001
Senior Engineering Specialist - Spartanburg, SC & St. Peters, MO
Estimated, planned, scheduled and managed in-house capital projects ranging
from $10,000 to $6 million. Oversaw progress of in-house manufacturing
engineering personnel and contract construction crafts. Supervised small
contract group of AutoCAD designers.
. Successfully led design and installation teams for a $575k wafer cleaning
bench to increase capacity by 100%. Controlled costs at 87% of budget by
using in-house crafts. Met schedule targets.
. Managed a fast track project relocating process equipment from another
MEMC site within the allotted 90 day time frame and at a cost of 95% of
budget. Resultant startup yields better than predicted.
. Completed a $6 million project to install equipment to add 20% capacity
for growth of silicon rod for wafer manufacturing. Kept spending within
95% of budgeted costs and met schedule targets
. Managed over thirteen separate projects to facilitate relocation of
equipment from mothballed plant in South Carolina to other MEMC
facilities.
. Annually managed multiple plant projects while consistently meeting
schedule targets and controlling costs within the company standard of
10%.
. Managed projects as part of the company-wide "Green Wax" program to
eliminate use of solvents that had negative impacts on the environment.
These projects were based on lab/pilot work passed on from the corporate
technology group. Plant fixed costs for using solvents were reduced.
. Successfully led a project, refocusing an entire production wing of the
Spartanburg plant, resulting in more efficient product flow, an improved
etching process and additional free space for future expansion.
. Successfully managed a project to replace 12 blade type wafer saws with
one new generation wire type saw, improving quality, and throughput and
reducing headcount requirements by 50%.
Monsanto, St. Louis, MO 1974-1986
General Engineer/Senior Engineer/Engineer II/Engineer I
Specified manufacturing process equipment and piping systems. Conducted
stress analyses and scheduled resources for plant support projects.
Participated in site inspections and field checkout of the equipment and
piping systems. Estimated, planned, scheduled and managed plant capital
projects ranging from $5,000 to $150,000, including the specification,
installation and checkout of equipment and facilities, oversight of
progress of plant engineering, design personnel and on-site construction
crafts.
. Member of a project team that achieved an increase in production capacity
at the high end of the forecasted range, with capital expenditures at 91%
of the appropriated amount.
. Project engineer for a site installation at an Idaho plant. Engineering
costs and capital expenditures were below budget by 9.7% and 12%,
respectively.
. Area Lead Mechanical Engineer for a major new facility constructed to
produce an additive for commercial chicken feed used to shorten growth
time.
. Developed and managed the projects for the plant sprinkler system upgrade
in several production areas of the Queeny plant.
. Scoped, estimated, purchased and oversaw the installation of a storage
facility to increase capacity for a critical Queeny plant product. The
project was completed in an accelerated timeframe.
