PROFESSIONAL Summary:
An experienced electrical engineer in design, specifications, and
supervision of installations for low cost improvements that realize
significant cost savings and increased productivity. Adept in both union
and non-union relationships, team building, problem solving, electrical
power and control system design, and adding profit to the company's bottom
line.
EXPERIENCE smurfit-stone container
2006- Present Florence, SC
Second largest manufacturer of paperboard and paper-based
packaging with net sales of $7.042 billion in 2008. Union and
Non-union facility employing approximately 500 people.
Senior Project Electrical Engineer
Electrical lead engineer for the installation of a press pit
pulper on #2 Paper Machine. Project led to an increase in
productivity by eliminating threading up through the press
section.
Project manager for the installation of a new Allen-Bradley
PLC on #1 and #2 Paper Machines. Designed and supervised
installation to meet corporate risk management requirements.
Electrical lead engineer for the installation of a shoe press
on #2 Paper Machine. Project led to an increase in
productivity and better quality product by speeding up the
machine and increasing drying of the sheet through the press
section.
Project manager for the installation of two new multi-fuel
lime kiln burners. Supervised all aspects of both mechanical
and electrical engineering for the installation of the
burners. By having the capability of burning the cheapest
fuel (oil or gas) the mill saw a return on investment in
three months. Pending future installations these burners are
capable of burning Petcoke or methanol as well.
Assisted with electrical supervision and engineering for the
installation of a new evaporator set. This project earned the
Smurfit Stone 2007 Performance Excellence Sustainability
Award and resulted in $2 million annual savings.
Project manager for the installation of a new voltage
regulator on the mills #1 and #3 Turbine Generators. Obsolete
equipment and multiple failures of existing equipment
required an upgrade on each turbine. Neither turbine has had
any downtime because of voltage regulator failures since this
installation.
Project manager for the installation of new trolleys on the
#1/#2 Paper Machine house crane. Existing controls for the
crane consisted of drives but because of the environment in
which the drives were installed they had been experiencing
multiple failures. The new installation converted all crane
controls from drives to relays with the exception of the
remote control panel.
Project manager for the installation of a camera system for
the mills storeroom. This system allowed the mill to
eliminate hours in which the storeroom had to be manned by
personnel.
Project manager for the final installation of two personnel
elevators in the lime kiln and power boiler areas.
Installation had taken over three years and had many setbacks
until it was assigned to our department. Completed
installation of the lime kiln elevator in one year after
assignment and power boiler in less than two years.
Other mill responsibilities include Maintenance Supervisor
setup for E&I specialist when needed, member of mill safety
investigation team, and mill radiation safety officer (RSO).
In four years of supervision of installations there have been
zero recordable injuries to mill or contract workers.
Projects have included installation of 480V motor control
centers, 2300V motor control centers, motors, lighting
systems, instrumentation, PLC's (AB and GE), transformers (up
to 1500KVA), and AC drives.
Spring 2002 tennesse valley authority
Fall 2002 Energy provider for the Tennessee Valley and surrounding
Summer 2003 areas. TVA's power system is one of the most reliable and
efficient in the nation. In 2008, TVA sold more than 176
billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and earned revenue of
more than $10.4 billion.
Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant
Athens, AL
Plant maximum capacity of 3,440megawatts.
Electrical Engineering Co-Operative Education Program
(2002-2003)
Responsibilities included monitoring component replacement
and repairs under the guidance of TVA EE/ME supervisors,
manage Microsoft Access database detailing specifications and
status of breakers and motors throughout the plant, and
participated in evaluation of breakers from various vendors
for replacement or repair of breakers plant wide.
