Arthur D. Little pioneered the concept of contracted professional services
in 1886. Consulting services offered include: product & process innovation,
National defense, environmental health & safety and management consulting
services.
. Manager of the Material's Characterization Laboratory. FTIR,
Microscopy, FTIR Microscopy, Thermal analysis (TGA, TMA, DSC), GLP,
ISO9000.
. Guest-editor of a special issue of Field Analytical Chemistry and
Technology on open path FTIR instrumentation advances, applications and
data treatment (Volume 3, Issue 2).
Manager (1999-2002) Selected Cases:
. US Army. One of three analytical chemistry project managers on an
engineering design study to determine the best technology for the
destruction of chemical weapon stockpiles. Pilot plants were built and
over 20,000 effluent samples were tested by numerous subcontracted &
military labs. Responsibilities included: staff oversight (own company
and other subcontractors), planning, team motivation, analytical data
interpretation, and coordination at the pilot plant and in the office.
Prepared input for reports to US Congress. The best technology was
selected by a working group and construction of two Army plants began

. Confidential Client. Performed trade-off analysis of the most
promising field-portable sensors available in the next five years for a
client with challenging and very specific sensing needs.
Senior Scientist (1997-1999) Selected Cases:
. NASA. Presented the use of open path FTIR to monitor air in real time
on the International Space Station. Technology presentation scored the
highest. Further developed and validated the approach using target
chemicals. Validation continues with the European Space Agency.
. Litigation Support. Participated in a litigation support team regarding
N2O4 incident. Developed a unique visual display to convey to a jury
the complex chemistry involved.
Midwest Research Institute Kansas City, MO (1994-1997)
Midwest Research Institute (MRI) is a not-for-profit, contract research
organization providing solutions through scientific research, technology
development, and technical services for the benefit of government,
industry, and the public. MRI performs research in the areas of National
defense, health sciences, chemical sciences and Engineering.
Staff Chemist (1994-1997) Selected Cases:
. Department of Defense. Lead scientist and analysis task manager on a
program that determined the effect of chemical warfare (CW) agent
exposure on rocket propellant. Developed novel test methods and
modified standard methods for use on unique, sensitive samples.
. Confidential Client. Used mathematical interpolation to determine
physical properties of toxic organophosphorus compounds from literature
values of similar compounds.
. SEMATECH (www.sematech.org). Chemical analysis sub-task team leader on
a $600k, 6-month effort using FTIR to analyze effluent streams from
plasma etch and chemical vapor deposition tools. Within the project
timeframe, made key industry contacts, and learned quickly about the
industry and the technical aspects of the project. As a result, invited
to an interactive workshop at MIT, and to an industry task force
coordinated by NIST.
. Business Development. Member of company-wide semiconductor technical
marketing task force. Worked with others on business development
activities, proposals, and white papers. Work resulted in a marketable
product and established company as a key player for the industry.
