Employment History
Principle Software Engineer. Rockwell Collins, Richardson TX.
11/2007 - Present
At Rockwell I have been working on the Navy's E6 Block1 communications
upgrade project which comprises a communication system that monitors and
manages military messages across a range of transmitters and receivers.
Have worked extensively across all three tiers of this project i.e. Swing
GUI, Mid-tier message management, and multiple communication interface
processors. I have contributed the design of the high availability
solution, tuning and refactoring of EJB components for performance and
stability, GUI design, embedded Java apps, and the distributed cache.
Technologies include Oracle's Application Server (oc4j), Oracle DBMS, JMS,
Swing GUI, JCS, JNI, and general Java application programming outside of
the application server.
Application Development Specialist-Web, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas,
Richardson TX.
3/2006 - 11/2007
At BSBS (HCSC) I held a senior technical position and work as both
architect and developer in the development of Java / J2EE applications. I
led in the development of web services and three-tier web applications. I
shared in the responsibilities of interviewing and hiring decisions for
Java developers in my department. I also acted as an individual
contributor, prototyping and recommending solutions for: Rich-client (AJAX)
JavaScript GUI, Reporting solutions, Workflow (BPM), Portals, and other
technologies. I received monetary and recognition awards for my efforts at
BCBS.
Senior Developer, Sterling Commerce, Irving TX.
8/2003-3/2006
At Sterling Commerce I worked on three releases of Sterling's Control
Center product and was responsible for the design / implementation of
several components of this product. I was responsible for the development
of a SNMP interface between the Control Center management service and
services running on IBM OS/390 systems. Using the Quartz scheduler, I
designed and implemented a centralized task scheduling service. I
introduced a DAO-based persistence layer into its design. Using JFreeChart,
I provided a reporting service used to produce on-demand reports in PDF,
HTML, & CSV formats. I completed a feature called "Service Level
Constraints" which are rule-like descriptions of activities being
monitored by Control Center. I prototyped a generic management agent using
SOAP (Apache Axis).
J2EE Architect & Developer, SensorLogic, Addison TX.
6/2002 - 8/2003
Designed and implemented many components of SensorLogic's Telemetry
Application Server including portal, reports generation, and DBMS. These
efforts were implemented on Weblogic's Portal (Weblogic 7.1) Server and
Oracle 9i. Specific responsibilities included installation and maintenance
of development and production portal installations on RedHat. Developed
initial prototypes and production portal. Developed a tabular and chart-
based reports service using Espress Reports integrated with the portal
server. Developed several EJB components used in the implementation of user
navigation through the data model.
J2EE Developer / Contractor, Nokia, Irving TX.
6/2001 - 6/2002
Worked at Nokia on the Mobile Positioning Enabled Server (mPES).
Implemented on Weblogic's application server, mPES uses the LIF protocol to
provide a service-level interface to Nokia's GPRS location server. My
contribution was to design and deliver services that allowed mPES users to
schedule periodic reports for a given set of subscribers.
Other responsibilities at Nokia include the evaluation of a migration to
the Websphere server, MQSeries, and the implementation of a clustered
server architecture. I also helped with the test and validation process
during two point releases.
J2EE Architect, Mentor, & Developer / Contractor, ACS Retail Solutions,
Dallas TX.
3/2001 - 6/2001
Worked with ACS on the development of ParadigmPlus, a server implementing
the remote configuration of fuel dispensers (gas pumps) for convenience
store chains. My primary role was as a Java / J2EE architect, mentor, and
developer. I participated in the design process and was responsible for the
design / development of communication services between Weblogic's
application server and the remote convenience stores. I also mentored the
team in J2EE technologies including JMS, JDBC, and EJB development for the
Weblogic 6.0 server. Used JNI to interface with an ACS-specific messaging
library needed to communicate with the convenience store servers.
Framework Developer / Part-Time Contractor, RTS Wireless System, Plainview
NY.
8/2000 - 3/2001
Design and delivered a J2EE enabled SDK / framework for the RTS Advantage
Server. The SDK is used to implement client applications interfacing to the
Advantage server though the WCTP protocol. WCTP is a protocol aimed at
implementing two-way wireless services. WCTP messages are based on XML over
an HTTP transport layer. The delivered product included the Servlet-based
API, a gateway simulator application, documentation, and several template
applications.
J2EE Developer / Part-Time Contractor, Nortel, Richardson TX.
8/2000 - 12/2000
My second contract with Nortel was spent developing a demonstration
wireless portal, example wireless applications, and designing profile
management services for wireless portals. The sites demonstrated location-
based wireless services and made use of MapQuest location services. A
specific example is "Movies-To-Go" which demonstrated theater location
lookup based on handset location and included browsing of current showings
and on-line ticket purchasing
J2EE Develper / Contractor, Geoportal (Ericsson), Richardson TX.
3/2000 - 8/2000
Contributed to the architecture, design, and integration of a location-
based portal developed by an Ericsson startup. Lead the integration of the
portal services implemented using WebLogic's application server.
Web Developer / Contractor, MCI, Richardson TX.
9/1999 - 3/2000
Responsible for the client side of Advanced Communications Services (ACS),
an MCI service that provides webcasting of live and prerecorded
presentations. This was an advanced webcasting service that integrated
streaming video with slides, chat, and branding capabilities. I developed
several server and client side Java applications for this project. This
includes the use of JSP / Servlets under JRun on Apache. Also developed
several client-side interfaces using Applets / HTML / JavaScript. I
researched and deployed RedHat servers in an effort to migrate ACS from
Solaris to Linux.
Web Architect & Developer / Contractor, PageNet, Plano TX.
8/1998 - 9/1999
Software Architect & Developer / Contractor, Nortel, Richardson TX.
1/1994 - 8/1998
