2004 to Present Owner

Highlands of Lake Lure, Lake Lure, NC

Developed new entity that set the standard for residential

development and construction in the foothills of WNC.

Developed plans and processes that recognized services

and products not being offered in the area. Worked with

local as well as state agencies that streamlined the

development process and enhanced the due diligence

process for other developers to follow.

. The implementation of this business caused me to think outside of

my paradigms, develop expertise quickly in a field

outside my comfort zone and recognize the areas of

business I could move into quickly to take advantage of

to be successful.

. The skills I possess are an advantage no matter the industry or

expertise, innovation, vision, planning, communication

and implementation all are not unique to any one field

but applicable to all areas. For example, making the

change from the electric utility industry to the real

estate development industry seems quite a career change

but all of the skills transferred very well.

1995 to 2003 Engineering Manager

Duke Energy-Cliffside, Cliffside, NC

While at the Duke Energy, Cliffside Steam Station, tasks included the

complete responsibility for the operation and maintenance

of the five coal burning units. Responsibilities included

megawatt output, efficiency, lost megawatt hours and

interfacing with environmental agencies. Also, major

outage processes and new technology implementation.

. While at Cliffside Steam Station, the station became the leader on

the system in the areas of availability, lost megawatt

hours, environmental stewardship an safety leadership. In

addition, becoming an industry leader in the area of

power plant efficiency, saving Duke Energy in fuel

savings.

. The ability to think outside the box (innovativeness) and see all

tasks, projects, work and problems as processes and

process failures are crucial to implementing projects,

new technologies and solutions. Communication skills have

also aided me in gathering synergy and buy-in to

implement these new processes.

1993 to 1995 Quality Consultant

Duke Energy- Corporate Performance, Charlotte, NC

Responsible for the implementation of a companywide Quality Process,

with a focus on the coal fired generating station.

Corporate responsibilities included developing the

overall processes and programs, determining rollout

schedule, communicating the expectations and results and

finally determining the measures and success criteria as

well as the rewards and incentive systems.

. The corporate Quality Process was rolled out with minimal issues

and with great success. In my area of focus, coal burning

generating facilities, this Quality process also rolled

out a Predictive/Preventative Maintenance process, as

well as a process improvement initiative. The results of

the generating facilities roll out was increased revenue

due to a decrease in lost MWs and a savings in fuel

savings, resulting in a revenue savings due to efficiency

gains.

1990 to 1993 Maintenance Engineer

Duke Energy- Marshall, Terrell, NC

Responsible for the overall maintenance activities required to

produce electricity at optimum levels. Duties included,

developing budgets, implementing projects, training craft

associates, qualifying subcontractors and assuring the

technical and quality aspects of any and all work

performed.

. The diverse work performed at this location required equally

diverse strengths. Communication, perseverance and the

ability to work with individuals from all walks of life

helped make me successful in the duties put forth.

1987 to 1990 Operations Engineer

Duke Energy-Belews Creek, Belews Creek, NC

Responsibilities included the overall operation of two 1100mw power

units. These duties included developing new operation and

switchyard procedures, developing five year budgets

plans, implementing strategies to improve plant output

and performance

. While at this position the coal fired supercritical power plant

achieved several awards in its ability to operate for

extended periods with limited resources due to innovative

out of the box planning and implementation.
