A leading international manufacturer of high end power systems for the
medical, industrial, military, telcom, and computer markets.
Supply Chain and Material Mgt VP (2005-December 2008)
Charged with management and development of a global supply network
consisting of component manufacturers, subcontractors, distributors,
internal suppliers and 3PL partners. Responsible for the financial planning
and analysis of the material budgets and the cash flow effects of the
material plans. Responsible also for providing product cost comparisons for
make/buy and internal sourcing decisions.
. Deployed a cost reduction and Value Add program which netted a
continuous 5% per year reduction in material costs and material
overheads during a period of increasing commodity prices for metals and
fuel related processing costs.
. Management of Shipping/receiving functions including packaging, pick-up
schedules, manifests and Bills of Lading. Responsible for all
transportation functions including small and large package shipping,
moving vans, ocean freight, rigging etc.. Instituted lean manufacturing
concepts and Industrial Engineering techniques to increase productivity
of packaging and shipping departs by more then 30%. This resulted in
bringing the "on-time" metric of getting shipments out on time to over
99%.
. Established partnerships with major distributers and manufacturers to
foster truly global policies. These policies enabled our company to
purchase under standard terms, conditions and pricing across the globe.
. Created an International Purchasing Office and Material/ Production
Management department that fully integrated Chinese divisions with USA
and Mexico operations. Enabled full leverage of low cost country
sourcing. This provided resulting cost reductions as high as 70% on
certain commodities. Also allowed for transfer of portions of the
purchase order processing and data entry to the low cost regions saving
as much as 80% in administrative costs.
. Established domestic and international freight contracts to contain
costs during periods of increased fuel and security costs, while
reducing the in-transit time of moving materials in a global
environment.
. Consolidated four manufacturing facilities in the USA and Ireland into
a single USA facility. This activity resulted in a 100% increase in
factory utilization, over $1 million inventory reduction, and an
approx. 10% reduction in the overall cost of sales.
. Spear headed outsourcing programs which allowed the company to close an
internal PCB fabrication process and the associated facility.
MATERIALS Director (1994-2005)
Directed all aspect of materials management required to support an excess
of 500% revenue growth over the period of leadership. These
responsibilities included Purchasing, Production Planning, Inventory
Management, Warehouse, Shipping, Packaging, and Plant Management of
internal parts production divisions. Held P&L responsibility for internal
parts manufacturing divisions.
. Evolved the Inventory and Material Management systems to include ERP,
Buyer/Planners, JIT, Cycle Counting, Kanban techniques, Excess/
Obsolete inventory analysis, lean manufacturing and inter-division and
supplier communications. These activities doubled the thru put time of
the majority of purchasing, receiving, and warehouse costs and
effectively reduced the labor costs by the same percentage.
. Established a domestic and Mexican subcontract supply-base to augment
internal capability during rapid demand upsides. This activity enabled
us to sustain meteoric growth while reducing costs by as much as $5
million dollars during peak years.
. At various times held corporate Operations Management responsibility
for the companies internal parts and production divisions that
consisted of PCB fabrication, Metal fabrication and finishing,
Transformer assembly, SMT and thru hole PCB assembly, and the Mexico
and China plant operation. Applied Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
principals to increase production efficiency and out going quality.
Managed an insourcing program for Powder Coating, Buss Barr, and Cold
Pipe fabrication which netted savings of approx. $1 million per year.
. Created Purchasing and Material Management procedures enabling ISO
certification.
. Oversight of major facility relocation in a two week period that
allowed for non interrupted production.
. Played the major role in establishing the companies fully owned Mexican
Maquilla and a WOFE in China.
