WORK EXPERIENCE
Employer Resource Institute
Online Design and Production Manager
November 2009 - Present
ERI is an award-winning publisher in the HR sector. I was hired to redesign
all online and print communications
with a focus on marketing strategies and updating ERI's identity and brand.
I manage and design e-mail campaigns, newsletters, advertisements, online
sales and landing pages. I've designed prototypes for a new Web site and
introduced best practices in e-mail design. I've updated UI navigation
graphics, icons, logos and illustrations that include selecting and
modifying stock images suitable for ERI's brand. I've also edited video
projects for online marketing channels such as YouTube and DVD products. My
design contributions across all channels have lifted response rates and
conversions.
CREDO Mobile / Working Assets
Designer, Production Artist (Creative Team, Marketing)
August 2007-November 2009
Design and execute multiple print and Web communications including Web site
(front-end maintenance, buy-flow, and landing pages), e-mail marketing,
banner ads, flash projects, PowerPoint presentations, direct mail,
brochures, collateral, print ads, icons, and newsletters. Key
accomplishments include improved response rates and conversion across all
channels including awareness, acquisition, and retention; brand development
during Working Assets' transition to CREDO Mobile; development of high
impact marketing pieces; refinement and testing of marketing e-mail and Web
pages; stronger concept and design of dynamic flash/rss banners;
implementation of Web site SEO best practices.
Minuteman Press
Designer, Production Artist, Pre-press Technician
October 2004-August 2007
Minuteman Press is a professional print and design house that has received
numerous awards for being the best in the business. During my time of
employment we received awards for best printer in 2006 and 2007 by
Entrepreneurial Magazine and best printer in the peninsula by The San Mateo
Daily Journal. As an in-house lead designer and production artist I created
original designs for clients including business collateral, invitations,
restaurant menus, newsletters, postcards, brochures, flyers, and logos. I
also designed all internal communications including advertising, brochures,
and collateral. Minuteman Press was an extremely busy shop and multitasking
was a must; I managed two junior designers and overlooked all facets of the
graphics department from project workflow, client meetings, artwork
creation, design comps, layout, pre-press tasks (pre-flighting files,
troubleshooting and correcting problematic files), film and rip output to
film and plate processors for offset printing, and output to several high-
end digital printers (Konica 7075, Konica 8050, and a large format HP
Designjet). I created efficient workflow systems that delivered high-
quality design and production while decreasing errors and saving money. I
implemented better methods of PDF proofing, file organization on computers
and servers (making it easier to access archived files), and implemented an
automated backup archiving system.
Genji Antiques SOBI Design
Designer, Webmaster
March 2002-September 2004
Genji and SOBI are two divisions of the same company. SOBI designed and
manufactured contemporary Japanese furniture. Genji specialized in Japanese
antiques. I was an in-house graphic designer and Webmaster specifically
hired to design and develop Genji and SOBI's Web site and identity. By the
time I left Genji in 2004 I had developed over 500 Web pages that included
over 300 catalog items. I analyzed Web site visitor statistics and
developed methods to increase traffic, SEO, and online sales. I redesigned
the company's logo, stationary, advertisements, direct mail, store signage,
and catalogs. I worked directly with vendors, printers, and service bureaus
and managed projects and budgets. I rendered custom furniture designs to
scale and designed several original units of furniture. I photographed all
furniture and merchandize for both print and Web site. I improved the
company's organization, specifically with managing file systems on both PC
and Mac computers. I also multi-tasked and helped with administrative
duties, customer service, business correspondences, copy writing, and
computer related upkeep and troubleshooting. The Web site and my graphic
design work provided Genji Antiques and SOBI Design with a professional
identity and increased sales.
MoBu Dance
Designer, Webmaster, Copywriter
August 2001-Current
As a key member of the experimental multi-media performance company MOBU
Dance, I've created experimental graphic design and photography work for
invitations, posters, direct mail, and Web site. I also write copy for the
Web site and all other publications including press releases and grants (we
received a Zellerbach grant in 2002, 2004, and 2005 and a "Cash Grants
Award" in 2003, 2004 and 2008). I'm responsible for project planning and
work directly with service bureaus and printers. I contribute to MoBu Dance
by creating a unique visual identity, distinguishing the group within the
SF Bay Area dance community.
Printing Etc.
Designer, Project Manager, Production Artist
May 2001-February 2002
As in-house designer I created business cards, flyers, CD jackets and
stationary. I managed all aspects of production work including pre-press,
typesetting, page layout, trapping, proofing, and press checks. I gave
Printing Etc. a fresh new identity by redesigning their logo, stationary,
and advertisements.
HeadLight Journal
Publisher, Designer
2000-2006
In 2000 I founded a part-time magazine called HeadLight Journal, a cultural
arts online and print publication. The focus of the journal was music, art,
and culture. I worked with many artists and writers worldwide and published
over fifty interviews and penned dozens of essays. I designed the Web site,
created graphics and illustrations, and collaborated with other designers
to create Web pages, illustrations, and magazine layout.
Maitri
Designer, Copywriter, Committee Member
January 1999-November 2001
I was a committee member at Maitri, an AIDS residential hospice in San
Francisco affiliated with the Zen Center. I served on the Art for AIDS
Awareness (AAA) committee. AAA was a biannual art fund-raiser that supports
the hospice. I organized and prepared fund-raiser events (including the
presentation of art works) and project planning for all communications. I
also designed the original AAA logo as well as invitations, posters, and
programs. AAA generated over $100,000 during my time serving on the
committee.
