MASTER'S THESIS

. Thesis Topic - Finite Element Analysis of Forging

Description

. Analyzed simultaneous temperature-displacement forging process. This

study was based on an actual industrial forging process. The forging

parameters were obtained on-site and the analysis was carried out in

general package software Ansys LSDyna & Abaqus.

. The objective of this research was to study how general package

software compare to forging specific software like Forge, Hyperform,

Qform, Dform, etc.

. The research work was a collaborative effort between ARRI (Automation &

Robotics Research Institute) and The University of Texas at Arlington.

ENGINEERING PROJECTS:

. Impact analysis of a weight plate dropped on a cantilever beam using

Ansys LSDyna - Master's

. Computation of radiosity of a v-notch cavity by the sparrow radiation

method using MATLAB R2007b - Master's

. Study and performance testing of eco-friendly refrigerants replacing

Freon (R-12) in household refrigerators

- Bachelor's

> The aim of this project was to study and test a suitable replacement

for R-12. The performance of eco-friendly refrigerant R- 134a was

studied on a refrigeration unit used for R-12.

EXPERIENCE:

Technical Experience

. The University of Texas at Arlington, TX, USA Nov 2009 -

Present

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Computer Aided Engineering

> Modeled complex structures using Pro-E Wildfire. Stress analysis was

carried out in Ansys Classic & Workbench.

> Stress analysis was based on Failure of ductile materials due to static

loading (Maximum Shear Stress

Failure criterion, Distortion Energy Principal), Failure of

brittle material due to static loading (Mohr-

Coulomb theory, Applied Mohr theory), Failure due to Fatigue

Loading (Stress Life Approach, Strain-Life

Approach, Fracture Mechanics Approach), Natural frequencies &

Buckling loads, etc.

> Applications included machine, structural, control, thermal, and fluid

systems.

> Conducted lectures in absence of the professor.

Solid Mechanics

> Addressed questions and provided solutions to homework assignments

regarding concepts like the relationship between stress and strain

in elastic bodies and the tension, compression, shear, bending,

torsion, and combined loadings which produce them.

> Deflections and elastic curves, shear and bending moment diagrams

for beams, and column theory.

Continuum Mechanics

> Concepts dealt with included the study of the underlying physical

and mathematical principles relating to the behavior of continuous

media, interrelationships between fluid and solid mechanics.

. Thakur Infra Project Pvt. Ltd., Panvel, India

June 2006 - Aug 2007

Design Engineer

Duties Performed

> Drafting of engineering drawings.

> Modeling and analysis of structures like beams, girders, columns, etc

as per the client requirement.

> Modeling was done in AutoCad.
