The identification of multifunctional organic species in Particulate Matter
(PM) was carried out. Samples were first collected in Philadelphia area
using quartz filters and an Anderson high volume PM10 sampler, then
extracted by Soxhlet and analyzed by GC/MS. This study contributed to the
characterization of several atmospheric pollutants. The evaluation of
their toxicity has been undertaken.
Responsibilities: submit a research project, experimental work, data
interpretation, library search, oral presentations.
Mar 97- Apr 98 National Institute for Resources & Environment,
Tsukuba, Japan
< Post-Doctoral Research Associate
The photochemical degradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)
in the environment was carried out. The effect of solvents and
substituent groups on the photo-oxidation of these pollutants was
demonstrated using GC/MS. The effect of rain water on the
photodegradation of PAHs in diesel particulate matter, the mechanistic
pathway and the fate of these PAHs were undertaken.
Responsibilities: submit a research project, experimental work, data
interpretation, library search, and oral presentations.
